Sent standard letter to Egg for PPI insurance claim in Oct. The loan taken out Jan 05 £5000 over 48 months loan protection £959.80. The letter says We have attempted to retrieve the call when you were offered PPI , unfortunately the tape has been corrupted and we have been unable to listen to this. Therefore a business decision has been taken to refund the PPI with interest as a gesture of goodwill without admission of liability. Please find enclosed a cheque for £324.75 this being the remaining premium of £292.83 plus interest of £31.92. Sent 2nd letter saying i would accept the cheque as part settlement but unless they could prove to me that it wasnt missold i wanted a full refund plus interest, received a letter yesterday offering me the full amount of the policy plus interest. £1018.89[/quote

Provider - Barclayloan
Amount claimed - Loan premium (which was added as a whole amount to the loan)
Reason missold: Pre existing medical condition
Amount TO BE REPAID - Premium (not sure of interest)
The story
1st letter sent October. Negative reply so 2nd letter sent, Again negative reply but should I wish to discuss it to give them a call. Rang yesterday to reiterate details of the letter and lady said she would call me back. She did less than 2 hours later to say that they could not go over the details of the phone call as too far back but on this occasion they would refund PPI and it would be in my bank by FridayFingers crossed.
AND IT WAS IN BY THURSDAY (The day after I called them !!)Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -
Did they reply within the 8 weeks or did you have to take this financial odbudsman?0

I'd give them a call - it was cheaper for me and them than paying court feesMortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -
Hi thanks to Martins website adivice I received a payment from the Alliance and Leicester for £1100 for an active PPI. They were very helpful with my claim. However I have a fight on my hands with the Funding Corporation acting as Loan One Plus. They have rejected me on the first letter and informed me to go to the Financial Ombudsman. I have sent a letter again but don't think they will budge. When taking out this loan I had informed the Customer Relations person that I had Insulin Dependant Diabetes but was informed that I would be OK for the PPI, this was on three occasions. They have just sent me the key facts, which I did not have in 2006, and basically told me it is my fault. So for a PPI that will possibly cost me nearly £15000 if I was unemployed I may only be covered for approx £6000. Still I have time so I will take this all the way. I have learnt that I will not touch PPI's again but it could become an expensive lesson with the Funding Corporation. I'll keep you all posted as I have just give them another 21 days to reply.0

HSBC has offered me £600!
but they have refused to pay the 8% interest
Is this 8% obtainable or will it involve a court room
should i just grab the cash now or chase the 8%?0 -
I wrote to Alliance & Leicester on 01/12/07 claiming back my PPI on a loan that I actually paid off 6 months ago.
I had always been uncomfortable with how it was sold to me and tried cancelling it 3 times but would have meant re-financing with A&L and borrowing another £500!
They sent an offer on 14/12/07 for a full refund of premiums and interest paid to date of £1538; which I accepted:money:. Got my cheque this morning!
Was too 'chicken' to hold out for extra 8% interest that a court might have awarded.
Thanks to Martin for his invaluable advice and site. Keep up the good work and Merry Xmas.:xmassmile0 -
Just got back ppi from a&l the grand sum of £1500 thanks to coming across the thread and sending off a tempate letter i still cant believe how simple it was. Had to wait a total of three weeks from a&l confirming that they would be repaying all premiums to actualy getting the cheque in hand but what a result. My advice would be give it a try its well worth the cost of a stamp you never know, so well done Martin and thank you very much keep up the good work0
