RBS agreed that they had missold my PPI and that they would give me a full refund. I had to sign and return an acceptance form before they would confirm the amount. They received this on the 7th September and I've not not heard anything back.

Apparently I then need to accept the amount they offer before they send the cheque so who knows when I'm actually going to get the money back that they STOLE from me...

How comes they get 16 weeks to respond saying they will return the money yet there is no time limit on when they need to return our money??? My original claim letter was sent in June and I'm still waiting

They have 28 working days from when your acceptance went on their system. This is what they are aiming for and not necessarily what will happen but they seem to be paying out more timeously than other banks. My complaint went in july 2010, offer received 2nd sept 2011 and acceptance on their system 9th sept. I have called them a few times and the are sticking to the 28 days so fingers crossed.
    Cheers.

Unfortunately after 3 years of trying to claim PPI back from Nationwide, my husband today has received a letter from the Ombudsman to say they cannot uphold his complaint :( This is because DH is saying they told him he had to take PPI and Nationwide are saying he chose to have it. DH says he was very upset at being told he had to take it at the time and felt cheated. The Ombudsman says there's no proof either way and no recordings available of the phone conversation.

DH is most upset. He said it honestly wasn't about the money so much as the cheek of Nationwide and he feels sad that a big company like that have got one up on one of us.

Very sad. I do also wonder if it might have been a different story if we'd put in a claim now instead of 3 years ago, as I know a lot of banks are paying out more these days.

    Very frustrating.

I know it's not nice reading about a failure, but perhaps it'll give some of you a more realistic idea of what can happen at the final hurdle, plus I have posted in this thread quite a bit in the past and always said I'd inform of the outcome.

Thank you to all for the advice and support over the past 3 years.

Was this the decision from the adjudicator or from the actual Ombudsman?

I know there are some who were rejected by an adjudicator at the FOS, but appealed to the boss(Ombudsman) and the rejection got overturned. Just ensure you have all of you reason's for mis-sale we could also help with some quotes from the FSA handbook for you to go back with if we can.

    What were you reclaiming: Loan
    Who was the provider:LloydsTSB
How much did you get back: £15186
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman:Letter
And then write your brief reclaim tale
I originally wrote to Lloyds in 2008 about the ppi on my loan as I had tried to cancel it but was told I couldn't without reapplying for a loan and that it would only make a £2 difference to my repayments despite the paperwork suggesting it was £80 a month. I have pre existing medical conditions together with a job that pays for up to 12 months should i need to be off work. Both of these factors meant the insurance was unnecessary. My claim was refused and I never actually had a response to my second letter.I stupidly did nothing else until I was listening to Martin ( together with some nagging from my mother!)again.I wrote again in June and asked for a response to my letter in light of the recent court ruling.I received a letter in August saying they were upholding my complaint and then a letter on the 8/9/11 giving me the amount of the refund with interest until 5/10/11. Of course I have not received the cheque but after calling numerous times and emailing the CEO I finally got an honest answer today. Apparently there has been a hold on cheques for the past 2 weeks as their calculator was not working correctly! The calculator was working on Thursday and some cheques were issued but it 'went down' again yesterday but is working again today(isn't that reassuring?)They are issuing about 1500 cheques a day and are currently dealing with those refunds from mid August. I am told I will have my cheque by the end of the month. I'm not holding my breath but do feel a bit better and let off some steam via their automated customer service survey...
I would like to say a very big thank you to Martin and all of you on this forum for showing me what to do and not giving up.:money:

I had a successful outcome this morning.

    Briefly....

Had a £5000 bank in loan in 2002 which ended in 2005. Was a personal loan for a car with HBOS

Typed of the letter from here and gave them a call looking for some details. Loan numbers etc.....

Got these OK and was asked if i would like to speak to their dedicated PPI team.

I said OK and gave all the details of the miss-sold PPI over the phone.

I didn't even need to send the letter in.

Told me 8 weeks then got a letter saying 16.

Phoned last week for an update and they told all the info had been gathered and they HAD to give me a decision by the 7th October (yesterday).

Yesterday came and went and was going to wait all weekend until Monday to find out what was happening.

    Now the good news.

Got a late post today with a letter from the bank and they gave me a cheque for £2345.36:money:

A lot more than i was expecting. They will send me another letter explaining the decision.

The loan was for £5000 and i paid £7800.

At the time if i hadn't took the PPI the loan cost would have been roughly £6100 so i was expecting if anyting about £1500.

Anyway thanks for the help from the forum:T

    RBS Success
Got my offer letter in for 5 complaints put in mid June, loans go back to June 1997 and were all consolidated from one to another, these complaints were numbers 3 to 7 with RBS, with loan 2 having no ppi and eventually found paperwork for loan 1 which is under a seperate complaint.
My 16 weeks was due up this Monday so arrived two days early, have looked at my figures this morning, and they're fine, so signed acceptance forms and sent Special Delivery to arrive on Monday and hopefully should have my money by around mid November.
Total redress over the 5 complaints was just a shade over £10k, my worst figure was £2.5k and best about £14k but this was dependant on the figures at each of the early settlements, but they work out okay when I put them in my caluclator.

This should clear my feet of most of my debts except my cars and my mortgage, but will allow me to make extra payments to my mortgage so will have a longer term effect as well.

Keep up the good work out there guys and gals, and I'll still be on here for more advice where I can.

Also still waiting for one more with RBS, Halifax secured loan ppi due mid December and Bank of Scotland CC due at end of October. Have to investigate a Mortgage PPI that OH has, but I'm off on two weeks holidays so loads of time for that one.

Big thanks to cappo, Di, and the other stalwarts of these PPI pages. Most to you Steve and Di, you really are an inspiration to me for your dedication and I really am in awe of you both, I do rant at some of the questions on here, don't type them though(lol) but you guys must count to ten and still give a good reply, I have to bite my tongue.

Thanks all and keep up the complaints on these bar stewards or bankers whatever you prefer to call them!
