Nice.
Cant reconcile the 8% interest. Are they paying this gross or net of basic rate tax.
You paid off £14468.07 (original ppi less rebate) too much ppi on 08/05/07 thats 4 years 4 months or 52 months
£14468.07 x 8% = £1157.45/12 x 52 = £5013.66
Also I assume the PPI monthly premiums plus interest were incorporated in the settlement figure at May 07. If not they owe you the monthly premiums of £156.11 x 7 plus 8% interest as well
You know I feel about FP and there calculations for goodwill offers
they are generally incorrect or loaded in FP favour.

Hi Niggly- I got a goodwill offer from RBS which I accepted, but am concerned that they have loaded their calculations in their favour. You helped me calculate what they might owe for a coerced telephone PPI missell.
Loan was Sept 2006 originally five years, £25,000 6.3% interest.
I paid whole loan off 18 months later.
I was paying £595.86 including PPI with PPI loaded up front (not a one off however).
PPI per month was £109.
At settlement I paid £20,323.85 pence on top.
Their offer (not yet paid) was £4782 made up of "refunds of premiums paid plus interest amount of £3785 plus statutory and stay interest of £997.
You thought they might owe me in the region of £7000.
But its good news isn;t it anyway. I don;t mind going back to say they have miscalculated if I can offer facts and figures.
Thanks so much for your help.
Hooray for Niggly.

Hi all
Got some good news ... after weeks of waiting for any kind of letter I phoned HSBC to find out what is going on, and the reason why they didn't respond was it was with the FOC.. but the !!!!!GREAT!!!! news is they have upheld the complaint and will be paying me back…..
Then got the letter from the FOS saying that HSBC will be making a “good will payment” and will take no blame for the complaint ... it goes on to say the payment will be in line with the FOS rules.
But I now have to wait for 2 weeks by the FOS to accept the payment terms, then I have to wait to hear from HSBC to make the calculations
The Questions I have are :
1) Will I get the PPI back in full and the 8% interest as I have paid over £6000 in PPI over the last 8 years .. or will they try and give me a smaller amount as a "good will offer"??
2) Is there any way to speed up the 2 weeks wait and HSBC wait as I have been waiting now over a year...
Can I ring up the FOS to say I accepted now ?
Also can I ring up HSBC to start them off on the calculations.
Any help would be great ... always have this feeling that even thou I won I will end up losing!!!!
I got the same letter from the FOS. 'HSBC would like to make an offer as a gesture of goodwill with no admission of liability etc'. My letter also states that the settlement will be based on the general approach of the FOS re mis-selling i.e. all PPI refunded plus 8% interest per annum from the date of each payment. I am assuming therefore that the full redress will apply.
HSBC are supposed to write and confirm the terms of the settlement but I have heard nothing yet. The FOS letter was sent on 7/9 so I will ring FOS later this week if I've heard nothing further from HSBC. I think it's best to call FOS since the case is in their hands. Hope we get a speedy result!!0
