I reclaimed from RBS...had my card since 1997...but they cannot find my original agreement, and so only paid out back to 2006!!
This fab news, and gives lots of us encouragement...seems some banks play fairer than others...one last query...are MBNA the bank behind Virgin? Wonder if this will help claimants for Virgin....x
May I suggest you e-mail the CEO and request his asistance in resolving your problem from my experience with them it needs a senior manager to access pre 1999 Records plus when Stephen Hester puts it in their in tray things seem to happen;)0 -
Sorry for the bump on my own post but check out the update, I wondered if anyone else has had this?
Hi Guys,
Just a quick one regarding my Halifax PPI claim.
A letter came through this morning stating we were to have £2069.75 refunded. In short, a full refund. Bargain!
I'd used the template letters ( a huge thank you to Martin and the team! ), and sent my letter off in October last year. Never claimed on the insurance despite being made redundant in 2008.
Went through the "all cases on hold" malarky and played the waiting game. In the interim I'd gone to the Ombudsman and got my side in but it looks as though I now need to contact them to say Halifax have settled in full.
A quick breakdown
Refund of premiums = £1708.80
Refund of interest applied because of PPI = £347.24
Interest at 8% = £13.71
Total = £2069.75.
As we still have a balance with them they've wiped it off what's outstanding, but I'm more than happy with that.
Now I owe someone at work a case of beer for goading me into reclaiming, but again, that's a small price to pay. I just won't be making that purchase on my credit card :rotfl:
Still awaiting the outcome of 2 closed accounts with MBNA and closed mortgage account, again with the Halifax.
Once again a huge thanks to Martin and everyone at MSE for making it easy for the average bod to take on the big guys.
Kind Regards,
Daddyswede.
*~*~* UPDATE *~*~*
12/08/11
Checked online tonight - the £2,069.75 has been ADDED BACK ONTO THE ACCOUNT!!!
I rang the card services line and reported an unauthorised transaction ( just to be on the safe side ) it was explained to me that someone at Halifax had been e-mailing someone else in Halifax and concluded that they'd write me a cheque instead. After explaining that I was happy with the way things were originally sorted, the agent agreed to credit me the difference betweeen my two balances ( only about £20 in interest ), whilst I wait for their cheque to be re-credited to my account. I've asked the agent to feed everything back, as a cheque being raised was unnecessary and will only skewer everything.
Seriously though, Halifax, !!!!!!?
This time it wasn't broke and didn't need fixing !
Just wanted to make you all aware and it was only by pure fluke that I went online tonight to check it. Cheeky gits.0 -

Good news about MBNA, does anyone on the forum have any thoughts as to why MBNA would automatically uohold PPI on loans, and not credit cards?
Citibird x
I guess the difference is that on loans it is easy as the PPI was always added on at the start of the loan, so I guess they've accepted that their loans sales process was badly flawed and it doesn't take as much checking or calculation. On loans it was either on from the start or not at all.
With credit cards its a bit different because PPI wasn't always on the account from the start. Sometimes PPI was sold months, even years, after the card was first issued - often when people phoned up their customer services about something else they'd get the routine of "while you're on can I interest you in taking out a PPI policy on your card, its only xx pence per £100...." I suppose they have to establish how each policy was sold to see if it was missold. Its amazing how these banks can't even do simple calculations correctly..............0 -
Could someone please help me ............I'm trying to use the compound interest calculator that I found through this site. However, to do this I need the credit card interest rate.
How do I find this - my lloyds tsb shows that from Feb 2011 it was 27.9% as an annual rate.
All my statements looking back beyond that say stuff like monthly rate of interest is
1.385 % for purchases
2.075 % for cash
How do I make this an annual rate or do I assume it was still 27.9% ??
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers
