PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Hi all,
Have been following the site for a while but this is the first time that I've posted.
I sent off around eight questionnaires to various banks etc. but as yet just seem to be experiencing stalling tactics from most of them. The others have more or less told me to get lost! One of these companies is HFC and after sending them the template letter at the beginning of June I got a letter from them a few days ago enclosing their own questionnaire. Now it seems to me that this is another stalling tactic because they could have easily sent their questionnaire out as soon as they got my complaint - not waited for 10 weeks. I notice that another poster, grayo, has had a success with HFC and would be grateful if you could say whether you also were sent one of their questionnaires? Also claimed against GE Capital for PPI on a car loan but they must have been taken over by Santander as I received a reply from them saying no. They also said that it was before 2005 so I can't go to the FOS, but mentioned FLA. I would be really grateful for any help that you can give me with this.0 -

Hi and welcome
Wishing you luck on all your reclaiming.
They all have 8 weeks in full to give a decision, some will write back and ask for more time, this is okay, but they should then give you a timescale of when you should hear.
In the final decision they should also if eligible give details/leaftlet of the Financial ombudsman service (FOS) on how to complain to them.
Some banks send their own questionnaires, despite sending one in already completed by the FOS. It just varies, although I am sure HFC are one of those.
In regards of the business not being regulated by the FSA prior to these were GISC, but it was not then essential for the business to have been governed, unlike the actual insurer/underwriters, where you could pursue on this direction instead, as these had part involvement of when the loan/finance was approved from the start.
So as many others have done for being in the same position as you, is still contact the FOS for the next best avenue.
Unfortunately the FLA is unlikely to help, but you could contact them to rule this out first if you want to.
Google FLA in and the details should come up.
But if you contact the FOS, although they're not going to be able to help with a business who were not regulated, for at the time you taken out the finance, they will be able to advise on the best direction to take from here, it is that normally of the insurer/underwriter avenue.

Good luck, please keep us posted.:)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
HFC PPI successful claim
Got a result from HFC (about £4K) for a previous loan.
Has anyone any idea how long you will usually have to wait from returning the signed settlement form and getting the settlement in yuor bank account?
ta Gray
This is excellent news! If you don't mind me asking, can you let me know what the rough timeline for things was? I sent back the questionnaire I received from HFC about a week ago and am wondering how long they will take to reply.
Like you, I will be expecting around £4k back if all goes according to plan.0 -

I also put in claims against Santander, although it was not for loans but on Storecards. They rejected everything and told me to go to the FOS although I knew it wasnt the right place, but I did go to FOS and they have just written to say they have located who the insurer was and have written to them to tell them I have a complaint. They have provided me with a name and the address and said wait a few days then write to that person direct. If I get no joy to go back to the FOS. So the FOS were very helpful as I didnt expect them to write to the insurers.
Good luck with it, I will post any reply I get from the insurer.0 -
Thanks for that information Di, I will contact FOS for advice. Blimey, it can get complicated can't it! How would I know who the underwriters would hve been? I'm sure that GE Capital also were responsible for PPI on store cards such as Kwik Fit etc. I have a little paperwork for GE Capital and also GE Money but not sure if they are the same company?0

Your very welcome evie.
What you do is either contact the lender or broker and they must supply you with details of the insurer/underwriter on request, I had to do this with one of mine, and it was send to me by 14 days, I did ask in writing and posted by recorded delivery, it was my lender who sent me the policy details.
Yes it does sound complicated, but not to worry, we will get there.
These documents of the policy are not always supplied with the documents you receive after signing up, and are then supplied on request.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
