PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Just to say that I followed your instructions and wrote to Halifax about the PPI they sold me in December 2003. I am a self-employed taxi driver. I used your templates and sent an explanatory covering letter on 22nd July. Today I received a letter from Halifax refunding all my premiums plus interest at 8% to the tune of £4,718. I can't believe it was so simple. I could never have achieved this without MSE.
Many, many thanks Martin.
Wow that is brilliant!!!!0 -
Had taken a loan out in 2003 with Alliance & Leicester, had to take PPI as wouldn't give me loan without.
Wrote to them 29th June for a copy of loan application, which arrived about 2 weeks later.
Emailed them Monday 19th July (thanks Halphy for email address) & with loan info & stating had to take PPI or no loan & that this shouldn't have happened.
Letter today saying they are unable to establish if I was provided with sufficient details to allow me to make an informed decision when the policy was taken out etc.
Also, when I paid the loan off a few months before due, PPI rebate was used to reduce amount remaining on the loan but apparently was not proportionate to the remaining term (£120 of a difference!:eek:even more glad I reclaimed now!)
Have made me an offer -
premiums paid on the policy + rebate adjustment +8% interest
total of £1590
I am over the moon! :j Supposed to get cheque 2 weeks after offer acceptance - hopefully this is the case! Let you know how long it takes.
:TBig thank you to all the MSE posts - so helpful - especially halphy & amersall.
Have a few more PPI/charges to chase now. Finger crossed.
That is fantastic, Glad to have helped!!! Keep at them for your refund..they can be slow xxxx0 -
Great News,
Just had a letter from N Rock stating the are up holding my complaint and going to refund me £1636 of miss sold PPI. I can not believe how easy that was, just 1 letter.
I have also recieved a letter from Santander Cards with all my passed statements. The letter just says hope these help? Not sure what that means? No mention of a refund? Has anyone else had the same sort of response? If so what did you do? I guess send another letter saying i want to claim the PPI back?
Many thanks to Martin and his team. 1 down 4 to go!!!

Hey everyone,
using the template off here I sent the PPI qairre to lloyds TSB on the 23rd july, meaning they'd have received it on Monday 26th July, yesterday, 1 week and a day later, I got their reply saying they agreed with my complaint and would be paying me back the PPI, plus 8% on each premium paid plus basic 8% interest to date of calculation, in line with the FOS guidelines...not sure how much yet, but well in excess of 1k....further more, on sunday this week, 01st August, it occurred to me I used to have PPI on my credit card too, although I cancelled this way back in 2007...so I filled in another form and emailed it, not holding much hope as I couldn't even remember the sale of the PPI myself...I then put the hard copy in the post on Monday...today, I received a letter saying they couldn't find the records relating to the selling of the PPI on my credit card so had no option but to refund me the full amount, plus interest...again in line with the FOS recommendations...not a clue how much it will be, but certainly better than nothing...little disapointed really as was looking forward to a good fight! ;-) thanks to everyone on here posting their successes, I'd been thinking about it for a while and it was only reading everyone elses post's that spurred me onto fill in the form and send it off...my message to anyone one considering would be to give it a go, I was pleasantly surprised!
Good luck, I'll let you know if they're as quick as refunding it as they were replying!0 -

Hi Jon and welcome
If mis sold the ppi, yes your entitled to make a reclaim, and as amersall also says the online applications can be tricky but keep at them.
I have heard that with some online applications, that it have not allowed people to carry on the application unless they've accepted/ticked for the insurance first.
You can write a letter to make a reclaim if you want to in your own words, but the first template letter on this site have been replaced by a questionnaire - issued by the financial ombudsman service (FOS).
Complete and send to whoever was responsible for setting up your policy, they have 8 weeks in full to respond.
Remember to keep a copy for yourself as well.
The FOS questionnaire you will find on link added below - further down the page as stage one.

I personally think that its best to post your reclaim by recorded delivery - this is your proof of posting.
Good luck.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Hi Jon, I too am fighting egg on PPi from 2007 an inyernet application. My reasons are
A) they have already been fined for missellingThey never informed me that options were available other than their own PPI.
C) wording used implied that it was part of the process, although I only have my covering letter as proof of this and no screen shots from the site.
The letter reads..
What to send back to us
1. sign and date the copy of the loan agreement with the red corner
Next, to protect your payments, make sure you tick the box where it says I wish to purchase loan protection
- Finally, sign again to make sure your repayments are protected
Now in my eyes this could be read as them telling me this is a step that needs to be taken to complete the loan application.
Like I say i am not sure if this is what it said online, however as it had been done online I am going to take the stance that I read this and thought that as it was done i had completed an important part already that they required to apply0 -
Hi all ,
Just received notification from RBS that they are unable to uphold my concerns , re: credit card ppi.
The main points seem to be , that I signed the CC application having ticked the box indicating I required the cover. The policy document was provided to confirm that I had applied.
In relation to my specific complaint , which was the suitability of the cover ( I would continue to be paid by my employer , in the event of injury or illness). They inform that the policy was prvided on a 'non-advice' basis and that as I had ticked the box (payment protection) in my postal application , I had made an informed choice.
They have sent out a copy of my application , clearly signed by myself. The remainder of the form , personal information and tick boxes is clearly not my hand .
I guess , I am asking - how to proceed , if at all ?:(0
