I paid the loan off 10 months early and so I think I should get 10 months back.
When I read the paperwork they state that you can only get a refund on their terms, which are not pro rata, and only if you pay 3/4 faster than originally planned, and no later.
Incidentally, they didn't explain that I could get this type of insurance elsewhere, although I did make the choice to have the insurance with the loan company. Can I perhaps make a claim in respect of this?
I'm really annoyed by this as I feel I should get some £400 back - any tips anyone?0 -
Hi there, I took out a loan last year with Halifax Building Soc., for 7500 over 3 years. The charges collectively add up to 11,500, which seems to be really high. Can I claim some of the PPI charges do you think?
I really would love some good sound advice.

To all people who have successfully reclaimed against the catalogue companies could anyone please give me some advice. Have been with littlewoods for several years and have always been charged advantage extra care but don't know what it is so just wondered if anyone knew if it was the same as ppi. Have emailed them to ask why I pay for it but have had no response. Would be really grateful but please be gentle as a newbie0

- Your salesperson implied that taking out the policy would assist my credit application.
- Your salesperson was very pushy in selling me the policy so that I felt I could not say no.
- Your salesperson implied that taking out the policy was essential for me to get the associated credit even though I informed them that I already had alternative insurance cover.
- Your salesperson did not give me full information on what the policy would and would not cover.
- I am concerned the sales assistant that sold me the policy has no financial background and the policy was not sold in my best interests.
Then today we have recieved another letter basically saying shove off etc BUT they have said 'you are concerned that you were mis-sold as you were not aware that Loan Protection Insurance had been arranged for you'. Then they proceed to tell me that we did know. However, that wasnt even one of our reasons!
I have drafted the second letter as per template, using the part if they have said you were not mis-sold.
So, my question is, what should I add to the second letter to say, 'you morons, you didnt even read the first letter properly' without, obviously, saying that?
TIA for any help anyone can offer!
Ignore it and write again. Seems like they just send a random default reply out that doesnt have a great deal to do with the individual complaint. My 1st reply didnt remotely answer my initial complaint. Tell them they havnt answered your complaint and to look into it.0 -
Im in the process of claiming my ppi back, thanks for all the great advice

Hi all,
Just an update...Have recieved a reply from Halifax,re PPI.
It`s just a curtesy letter really, thanking me for my recent letter :rotfl: They are sorry to hear of my concerns regarding the insurance applied to my loan, and that they are keen to deal with my concerns as quickly as possible  a Customer Relations Manager will investigate the points raised and I will receive a copy shortly, but certainly no later than four weeks..
Anyone else dealing with Halifax at the mo or in the past?
Hi
I received same in November, then 8 weeks and 2 days later received refusal letter. I sent 2nd letter and gave them 14 days, heard back in 2 days saying same thing, so sent in forms to FOS [1st week jan 08] plus courtesy to Halifax to let them know what I was doing. FOS replied to acknowledge receipt of letter straight away, then I received another letter from them this monday saying my complaint had a reference number and was being passed on to be dealt with. Just waiting and hoping now. Good luck with yours:rotfl:0 -

Hi Freedom2b. Yes, I'm currently dealing with the Halifax (see my threads on here for full explanation). I've had all the acknowledgement letters and 2 further responses to date.
I was mis-led in a pre-meditated fashion by a member staff at my local branch. When I arrived at the branch they had marked where I had to sign, including for PPI and had crossed through the 'No PPI box' for me. They knew I was stuck and told me I needed it to secure the credit.
They are one of the worst service providers I have ever dealt with and their customer service staff are completely incompetent. I say this at a time when I am taking them to court because they screwed up my credit history and have offered me a pathetic settlement figure.MSE - The Stig0 -

Hi, I wonder if anyone can give me some advice please. My husband took out a loan with Picture Finance a couple of years ago in our joint names. He then topped up the loan last year and on both occasions opted for the PPI because he felt it was beneficial. Admittedly he didn't read the small print where it said about cover only being for 5 years and would only cover him and not me so my initial claim to them for a mis-sold PPI was refused. He then asked them to cancel the PPI so that our monthly repayments would go down. OK, this is the embarrassing bit - the PPI on this new loan was £13,000+ so you can see what kind of debt we're in! Picture replied saying that they would deduct the £1 thousand and something we've already paid on this policy (sorry don't have exact figures right now) from our outstanding loan balance, which only takes the monthly repayment down by £9 a month. Surely they should have deducted the £13,000 from the balance and refunded us the £1,000? I am beside myself with worry at the moment. We are both working full time and cannot manage to work more even if we wanted to. My husband won't discuss it with me so I think its time I took things into my own hands. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.0

Hi guys. I'm particularly interested in hearing from Bathgatebuyer and viv57 regarding their PPI reclaims against the Halifax. I'd really like to know how you've got on.
Also, my friend Tiggrae! You recently wrote that the Halifax's company policy is to deny every claim then pay up immediately on commencement of proceedings. If my claim relates to a loan paid off at the start of 2004 can you clarify whether I can go to the FOS or does it have to be the courts? Either way, can you make recommendations.
Finally, I'd also like to understand how many cases have gone to court and what the outcomes have been. Many thanks
With my claim, I'm preparing my Particulars of Claim to go to court (using Newcastle as I did for reclaiming my bank charges from them - it's handy for me!). I'm extremely hacked off with the Halifax. As other have commented on here, there Customer Service is appalling (when I reclaimed bank charges - the Collections teeam registered a default against me after the court date to settle my claim as they knew nothing about the court case as Customer Services 'hadn't put a note on the file'), and in respect of my PPI case, I had a member of their staff in the Chief Execs Office accuse me of fraud (as the CCA they sent me was not in my handwriting - I believe it was written either a few months back or at the time the account was opened to try and justify the PPI they were charging) by saying that if it wasn't in my handwriting, I must have authorised someone else to open an account in my details. I'm totally bloody raging now thinking about that accusation now - let's see how damn smart they are in court. After all, they are handwriting experts with one of their Customer Service Managers writing to me and telling me it was my handwriting despite my name being spelt wrongly on it!!!:rotfl:And my profession being described as a "Charta Surveyr" You'd think they could at least pick someone who could spell correctly to fill in the form, wouldn't you?
I notice in one of your other posts that they quoted the Association of British Insurers Guidelines in 2001 to you. They did the same with me to justify their failure to send on copies of the terms and conditions of the insurance to me retrospectively. Apparently the ABI guidance says that only customers who go into a branch or apply for a card over the phone are given the opportunity to see the t & cs for the insurance - anyone who applied by post doesn't and are exempt from seeing the terms under ABI good practice guidelines. Something, which I'm convinced is a complete pile of p*sh.
Anyhoo, I anticipate that the Particulars of Claim will go to Newcastle County Court in the next fortnight or so. Thereafter, it's up to the Halifax whether they attend court or not. I will. I'm not being accused of being guilty of fraud by some muppet in their Chief Exec's Office, and I'm certainly not having someone suggest that I cannot spell 'Chartered Surveyor' properly!Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0
