I have begun a claim against First Plus. Nearly 3 years ago we paid off a First Plus loan early and got the shock of our lives. We did not realise that we owed them nearly £10,000 extra on top of our original loan - for PPI - the single premium PPI. I complained at the time but got nowhere and now our mortgage is £10k more than it should be thanks to them. It's something that me and my husband found really hard to put behind us, particularly because we were financially pretty vulnerable at the time.

So, I sent the first letter recorded delivery, adapting the template from this site, just over a week ago. I have today received a 'holding' letter from them, saying they'll deal with it before 14 December.

I won't let this one go and am prepared to take it all the way if needs be. What they do is nothing short of criminal. We are both intelligent people and they conned us. Who knows how many other vulnerable people they have conned?

So - wish me luck! I'll keep you updated on progress! And if anyone's reading this who has similarly been duped by First Plus - complain now! It's such a relief that this scam has finally come to light, thanks to Martin! Oh, and Carol Vorderman should be ashamed of herself for backing such a company.
hi am in the process of also claiming from first plus they have made me an offer which is well below the ppi that was put onto our loan. i have sent a letter back saying that this amount is not acceptable, and have put down what would be. I am now waiting for a reply so keep going with your claim dont let them win. I will keep you posted
  • Oh by the way, they settled after only the first letter! I didn't have to push or threaten them. If anything, I just treated the person on the other end of the phone as I would have liked to be treated. It worked for me so it may be something to think about.

  • I agree - trying to build up a rapport if you have a named complaints exec (first plus title) cant do any harm after all they are just working there to pay their bills.
Shame my guy disappeared on holiday last week lol - years in telesales helps I think lol - dont hate me I had bills too
Happy with any wins this year :A

  • Hi

Has anyone had success claiming from Northern Rock? They acknwledged my letter within 10 days but this week (a month since I complained) they have asked for the phone number from which I called when they sold me the loan and PPI. They have my home phone number on all my details so surely this is just a stalling technique?

    Hi Softouch
Come over to the reclaiming discussion thread . There are three or four claims with Northern Rock being discussed there, myself included. I'm at the same stage as you had letter to confirm investigation - no phone call though.

By offering you £3k they have admitted wrong doing and are hoping that with xmas around the corner you will accept, hold out and demand your full amount of £7.5k

    Good luck
  • It is soooooo tempting I know but Xmas would be brill - I really want to take it all the way due the pain we suffered having to sell up, become homeless and then going into council property because the PPI didnt cover us equally - but a bird in the hand and all that malarky
Happy with any wins this year :A
