I'm not sure who the quote by JWM was directed to but as far as the OP is concerned, he/she doesn't appear to have that healthy a bum, however young:

Actually it was directed at the person who would not stand for a pregnant woman as it was a 'lifestyle choice' and they considered the woman selfish for expecting others to be put out!!

Of course not everyone is able, but if you can give up your seat for someone who needs it more......then you should.

Oh yes, of course they are, but in EVERYONE ELSE'S WORLD....First class is generally at the front. :rotfl:

I don't believe your story for a fleeting second, that half the train is empty and people are all huddled in one or two carriages. I do believe that the empty carriages were first class though!

Why don't you believe it, just because you've not experienced it? I commute London to Brighton and this is frequently the case.

First class is *throughout* the train on Southern. Usually coaches one, five and nine, or four, eight and twelve (because the trains are made up of sets of four carriages with first class being the first of each set). The front coaches are often one third/ half full, whilst people stand at the back. Same on the Gatwick Express coaches. Not on the old Thameslink coaches, though - people seem to walk through that one.

It happens much more London to Brighton than Brighton to London. I assume it's because people are running for the train in London, jump on the back coaches and never bother walking through.

It *does* happen daily...you might not have experienced it but please don't assume others are lying.
' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".

Even as a sometimes walking stick user I've offered my seat while others ( a percentage of who at least I can hope are healthy) remain seated. Occasionally someone else then has offered me theirs. :)

Some of us who sometimes benefit from a seat don't need it all the time. If one of us doesn't need a seat offered at the time you offer please don't think it sets a precedent for all of us at all times. :D. If I don't take you offer up at ten am, it doesn't mean I wouldn't at four in the afternoon or the next day. Also, just because people have no walking aids or similar, a limp or signs of other discomfort;, paleness, flushed, someone looking unwell, IMO, these people benefit from a seat, or being offered one.

So this woman asked someone (not you) to give up their seat .....and you then went around asking all the people at work and also started a thread to ask if you should have given up your seat to a pregnant woman ................who obviously had no need for your seat as someone else gave her theirs.

OP I really think you need to get a life !!!!

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    There's over-thinking a situation......and then there is the OP :)

Who are you to say what kind of thread can and can't be started!?

It is perfectly feasible that the OP would like to other points of view on what they obviously think is not a clear cut case. As with most opinions - these are open to debate.

Just because you think one way doesn't mean everyone has too. Not everyone sees things the same way you do and that doesn't make them bad people. You are often rude and aggressive on peoples threads so I don't believe you are such the caring and considerate person you are making yourself out to be.

As for getting a life - maybe you should take your own advice?

Op, I get more cynical with age.

At a guess, from experience of people in general, I'd say the pregnant lady would not have even thanked you for vacating a seat for her and she would just have seen it as her entitlement.

However, had the lady politely asked for my seat then I would have given it.

OP, Is this a serious post???

You come across as petty and pedantic.

I don't understand how you would've been able to give up your seat if she had got on at any other subsequent station. As you clearly pointed out that it causes you pain to stand for a prolonged period as you have problems in your knees and because you look young you wouldn't know it.
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun
