I always to a cold tomato based pasta as well, seems to go down well and cheap as chips.Real men never follow instructions; after all they are just the manufacturer's opinion on how to put something together.0

Hi all,
It's my birthday on Sunday, and on Saturday I'm planning a BBQ party at home. I've got 9 strapping young men with fairly large appetites and 6 girls, including 2 veggies.
Can anyone provide me with some delcious old-style recipies for BBQ food, and any money saving tips for the party in general? Or any supermarket offers on BBQ meat etc?
I'm making my own beef burgers the night before, but would like some food like spare ribs, and some good, but cheap sausages.
Thanks!June NSD's - 5/25

Hi crumpetmonster,
For supermarket offers this website is great for comparing the different supermarkets: www.mysupermarket.co.uk or have a look on the Food Shopping & Groceries board for any current offers.
To cut costs pad the meat out with lots of green salad, pasta and rice salads, corn cobs, baked potatoes and garlic bread etc. This thread has lots of great barbeque ideas that should help:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together. Have a great party!

Hi, not sure if the offer is still on, but at our Asda recently, they had their own brand sausages on offer for 50p a pack. Think there were 8 in a pack, we had them on our bbq and they were very nice.
Happy Birthday for the weekend :j0 -
Hello, in Tesco they have 4 veggie burgers for £1 I think.. Was last time I went anyway (About a week ago).Sometimes.I.Wonder.Why.I'm.Still.Here..Sometimes.I.Think.I'm.Going.Crazy.0

We have tandoori style chicken bbqed and then serve rice with this so it goes a lot further - throw some peas, sweetcorn and microwaved onion into the rice and its lovely
Otherwise - sausages? maybe some corn on the cob? veggy kebabs - onion, peppers etc? baked potatoes in the bbq pit wrapped in foil, ribs? chicken thighs? chicken drumsticks? remember anything you do primarily for veggys might end up taking the fancy of meat eaters so you might need to do extra veggy options and sides.
A nice salad or two?
lots of buns or finger rollsLove is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together0 -
Ooh, thanks for the ideas all - I'm hungry already!
Did an MSE tesco onine order last night, and used the £10 off voucher from last weeks email, going to make some great veggie kebabs on Friday night, and then marinade some meat. Salads sound lovely too, I just hope the weather perks up a bitJune NSD's - 5/25

We had a BBQ last weekend and did some Belly Pork Slices on there instead of ribs and they were beautifully moist and tender, much better than ribs, cheaper too. Just marinated them in some Jack Daniels BBQ Glaze that we had, but any usual marinades would work well.
Stuffed peppers are good for veggies. Roast them in the oven for about 30 minutes to start them off and then half, fill with pre-cooked rice and place a slice of cheese over the top. Any melting cheese works well. Finish them off on the BBQ for a smokey flavour on the peppers.0 -
I am being given a gas BBQ today but am slightly worried about cooking on it. How do you make sure it is cooked through and has anyone got any foolproof receipes for using on it?0
