great idea for a thread...love the banana and pineapple idea also above sausages....we are boring mainly do burgers sausages and chicken kebabs...i look out for offers /reduced bbq food and keep in freezer box until we need it...i dont think that will be today...typical for a bank holiday....marshmellows are lovely toasted on sticks at the end...but it makes a mess of the grill
charcoal is reasonable in wilkinsons...and bbq themselves and tools etc are often half price in sainsburys...dont think they are yer though...give it time they will beonwards and upwards0 -
I forgot to mention that we always buy next years supplies (charcoal, firelighters, new tools etc) at the end of summer sale in Wilkinsons when they are clearing the shelves for back to school and Christmas goodies. Generally they are half price or sometimes 75% off.0

Hi all,
I am think about roasting whole Mackerels and slices of butternut squash on the BBQ tray. Can that be done?0 -
Asda have alot of their £2 bbq range for £1 at the moment
we also buy the cooked fresh prawns still in shells and skewer them and warm on bbq and make a fresh seafood sauce, the prawns are just over £1 and get around 30 prawns in a pack.
also we have the drumsticks from marks and spencer for 99p a pack get between 5 and 7 in a pack.
marks and spencers and waitrose do an 8 pack sausages for 99p also.
pork belly slices marinated in bbq sauce, pork belly slices seem to have doubled in price though since last summer.0 -
Whole large mushrooms (about £1 for 4) with garlic butter and a squeeze of lemon make a fantastic alternative to burgers. Pop them in a bun and hey presto. If you top them with rocket or watercress this makes a really peppery grown up vege burger that carnivores are happy to eat.0

I bought a small BBQ from Lidl last week for under a fiver! They were also selling all the coals, utensils, disposable plates, cups, etc, as well.
They also had some bbq meats which I'll be heading back to get later this week as I'm hoping to try out the new bbq this weekend!0 -
Sardines are lovely on the BBQ and allways cheap and tasty.
I also do new potatoes on skewers as above, corn on the cobs.
Love ribs and home made burgers.
Piece of lamb marinated in rosemary and oil.
Chicken, in oil, herbs and lemon juice.
Halloumi skewers.
Steak is nice on the bbq.
Chicken thighs and drumsticks.
Love BBQs
Articokes, small leeks, beanburgers.

I love thick slices of crusty bread (rolls etc), basted with some olive oil ( I usually leave a couple of mashed garlic cloves and rosemary soaking in the oil) and toasted on the barbeque. Then I spread them with sun-dried tomato - delicious!!! I usually have this later when the coals are still hot . and everyone else has finished eating (yes- I am greedy!!) but it would be an excellent filling starter!! It also helps soak up any excess alcohol!!!
My greek friend got me into this - I hated tomato before but now I love it!!
Also chicken wings are brilliant - easy and the options are endless - make your own marinades from scratch using oil, garlic and then add honey and mustard or paprika, lemon juice and onion powder, or chilli and onion, or 5 spice and jam, or piri piri and lemon, or ketchup and worcester sauce : the list is endless - just make up the mixture early and marinade the wings or drumsticks for a few hours before you cook them, and wait until the coals have died down a bit before putting them on the barbeque, cook well (for about 40 minutes!!!).... Serve with boiled new potatoes or chips (from your oven!!). Always looks like you have been cooking all day!!! I'm starving now and can't wait for my next barbeque!:rotfl: :rotfl:
Quite keen moneysaver......0 -
I use chicken thighs, remove skin and bone, put basil leaf and a slice of raw onion in the middle then wrap the whole thing in streaky bacon and secure with a cocktail stick. Wrap in foil, put on barbecue. Can also be done with small pieces of salmon (surprisingly good with bacon), though I replace the basil with a huge slice of lemon.
"My dad always used to wrap bananas in foil with sugar and bake those too" (quote from # 3) -
you can also make a small slit in the banana's skin, then post in some squares of dark chocolate before wrapping the whole thing in foil and putting them on the barbecue. Or you could use milk chocolate....or thin slices of M*rs bar or Sn*ckers...0 -
