The original post seems quite detailed. If there's something you are having difficulty with, it might help to post your query and I'm sure we will try to help as much as we can.

I dont understand how it can be cooked if its standing upright on a BBQ. I can see how it would cook ok in the oven(can this be made in the oven and finished off on the BBQ??) but i dont uderstand how it can be cooked at the top if the legs + beer can act as tripod legs to sit the chicken up-right! Does the BBQ have to be closed??0

My understanding was that you drink a third of the beer and plonk the chicken on top so that it acts as a tripod and the steam cooks the inside, while the barbeque cooks the outside.
I imagine the barbeque should be closed but that depends on the depth of the barbeque.
I'm sure Queenie (the original poster of the recipe) will be along soon to help you.

Apologies for not getting back to you.
Here is a pic of chicken on a beer can (first time I've tried to post any pix, so hoping it works)

Yes, if can be cooked in the oven
Just remember, if you are going to transfer it to the BBQ, or even when you remove it from the BBQ, be careful because the can and chicken are both very hot!!!
Leave the chicken to "rest" for 10 mins before you carve it too.

Thanks Queenie....Think i have got it...although i still cant see how without the lid closed the top of the chicken will cook enough without being smaller/on its side. For easyness anyway im going to cook them(2) in the oven first then finish it off in the BBQ for 10-15 mins...how do you reccommend doing this....times/heat etc as im clueless.
Thanks for the fruit, im going to try it....i just thought it would be a little more complicated....so just crushed ice, & cut-up fruit laid upon it??....i think ill go for that!
Any more ideas or recipies queenie....i know nothing! How do you do BBQ steak(please tell all and anyone else who knows how to cook steak on the BBQ). & Ribs!
& also is there any tasty ideas how to cook baked potatoes in the oven before hand....i know to wrap them before hand but is there anything i can do/add to them to make them extra special! Also how do you account for numerous things in the oven at the same time....say 2chickens in a can and 6 Baked Potatoes????
Sorry for all the questions...im an BBQ idiot.
Thanks Quennie & Pink0 -
The met office says cloudy with sunny spells and possibility of showers and the other neaest location has no possibility of showers, cloudy with sunny spells(well...the picture is a white cloud with a sun peeking over it, if thats what it means??). Fingers crossed, im sure ill have sunny spells...well i hope, i do....i just hope i get them in the evening! The weather messes with your head here. 3weeks of clear skies sunshine makes you think we live in a OK climate but them you 2weeks of rain/wind/cloud!!0

...Also,
Im still looking for any MSE peoples "home-made" bugers recipe...the one with chilli flakes and lea perins etc0 -
cheapy veggy dish could be a variation on the good old spanish omlette. Fry a chunky cut onion and green pepper Add a tin of new pots to 4 beaten eggs. Cook on low heat on hob for about 5 mins- add whatever herbs, or meat if you fancy then put into oven to finish- so that the egg has well set. Allow to cool, chop into gob size cubes and serve, nice hot or cold, watch it walk off the buffet table!!RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.
