My haircolour is never the same from one month to another.
My hairdresser has just put a dark copper colour over a base of chestnut with blonde highlights. I now have dark auburn hair with brighter copper hi- lights. We've done this several times with different colours - the hi lights take a brighter "truer" colour than the rest of the hair.
Just don't mention the dark ash .... definitely not my colour!0 -
hi all
I have just been reading 'daily thread' and Sunshine's post about colouring her hair. It got me thinking, does anyone try to save money by doing their own hair at home??
I have just coloured my hair today and I normally do the roots, every six weeks or so. I go to the hair dressing suppliers and buy the goldwell colour and mix with the 30% peroxide, (15mls of colour to 30 mls of peroxide).
I used to go to the local hairdressing college and they would charge me £10 to put some highlights in and then an extra £5 to cut it!
This way was quite cheap, compared to some of my friends at work, one of the support workers pays £85 every 6 - 8 weeks for various colours and a cut  . But I have cut down the price even more by colouring it myself, my friend sometimes does the back for me, but most of the time I do it myself.
I still pay £5 at the college for a cut and blow every 8 weeks, I have a straight bob and need to get it cut regularly, otherwise it looks tatty!
I think the hairdressers must be making a fortune out of some of us, I am using the exact same product to colour my hair as the hairdresser would use and a tube costs £6 and lasts for 4 applications:money:
I am really curious, what do all you os girls use???'If you judge people, you have no time to love them'

I was using Nice & Easy semi permanent to colour my hair myself, but last time I used Casting Creme Gloss (£5.99) and it has lasted a lot better. I stopped getting my hair coloured at the hair dressers about 5 years ago.
I still have my hair cut at the hair dressers but OH bought some clippers and his has been a DIY job for about 5 years (I just won't let him try them out on me! :rotfl:)Enjoying an MSE OS life0 -
When I've been working full time, I've had my hair coloured at the hairdressers and I do think it looks better for it. Most of the time I do it myself though, either to save money or because I can't face the prospect of a couple of hours sat at the hairdressers.
When I've been very hard up, I've cut my own hair. Generally, it gets cut two or three times a year. I cut my kids' hair and even colour my daughter's but she's starting to yearn for a morning at the hairdressers.0 -
This is perfect for the health and beauty board so I'll move it there where it should get more response. Thanks.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

I've always coloured my own, and have cut it myself for the last couple of years. I'm not very keen on going to the hairdressers anyway and I just can't justify the cost to myself at the moment. I use Schwarkopf Poly Colour - £1.99 at Home Bargains and a few other places, have got short hair so a pack does me two applications so I'm really cheap!
Currently using their 'red black' which is a lovely deep red wine colour.
Am sure neither the cut or colour are as good quality as professional but they do for me!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
I would like to dye my hair to white. Is there a cheap and safe way to do that? Only reason I haven't dyed hair for fun is the costOrder of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker0

Hi jago,
This thread was started before we had a Health and Beauty board, as it's come back to the top of Old Style, I'll move it over to the Health and Beauty board where you should get more replies.
