I tried this and it was a absolute disaster. The hair on the roots went this reddy/orange colour and I looked like a mowhawk skunk. Not a good look.Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0

Ooooh that is steep!
Was that for foils though?
Pull through highlights tend to be cheaper as they aren't so time-consuming.
Also, town centre hairdressers are always more expensive than the ones that are "a bit out of the way"! A trained hairdresser will help you choose a colour that is flattering to you skintone (generally lighter as you get older, or so my hairdresser tells me!!:rotfl: )
Have you considered being a model at the local tech college?
Never been myself but apparently it's hairdressing trainees doing the work under supervision.:wave:0 -
i do my own, i prefer the highlighting cap over the foils, i think its less fiddly0

hi it does seem now days that having your hair done seems to cost quite a lot. I am very lucky to have a sis who does it so get it cheap:T .
If there is a college near by they normally have a beauty/ hairdresser salon where the student do the treatmens and you get it for a cut of what you'd pay at hairdressers. Either that or try ringing round some mobile hairdressers, they normally work out cheaper too.
As one of the above poster said it can be hit and miss with doing home treatment and at times you could be doing more damage than good.:smileyhea:heart: Mrs Lea Nov 5th '11:smileyhea

I always do my own. I get the kits which have a cap, get my boyfriend to do the pulling through and put the lotion on myself. I don't see why I should pay £50 at a hairdressers when a £5 kit does exactly the same job for me (I have very short spikey hair so even if it goes a bit wrong it looks great when it's all spiked up).0

I had my hair highlighted really natural looking about 3 months ago. You can hardly tell its been done by the hairdresser most people assume its just benn the sun ( if only we'd had some). My hairdresser who was really cheap has now let me donw so I was going to get my hair cut and coloured at a salon. Just coloured once bac to my original hair colour and then in the future I'll only have to pay for my cut. BUT...........................I have just found out I need a 24hr patch test from the hairdressers and my appt is tomo, so though I would colour it myself today so its done before cut. But I am now very very scared and don't know if its too much of a risk doing it at home?
I really want it done but don't know where to start when it comes to buying and chooseing home hair dyes. Any advice would be amazing thanks.
Ps My hair is a medium brown, but with the highlights a light brown ( with slightly darker roots.
PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not wanting to scare you to death or anything, but.....................I went to my hairdresser this morning and commented on the amount of long frizzy hair on the floor. The hairdresser told me it was from a young girl who had coloured her hair several times at home, ending with a very dark brown and then tried to go blonde again.
Her hair was coming out in clumps every time the hairdresser touched it:eek:
Will leave you to decide what to doI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
Thanks, I decided shortly after posting that it was probably a bad move and would probaby end up costing me more to treat my hair and have it dyed again properly if it went wrong. And as it was just a ne off it is worth paying for. So I am going for my patch test tomo and having it cut and coloured next Saturday.
Thanks for your advice though.
