Dont forget, the North Sea is not your local rowing lake.

Its getting stormier and stormier so make sure you take some anti vomit medicine. (whiskey doesnt count).
:o Keep trying.........................what else is there to do? :o

Here is a tip for the scottish lady about the kettle egg boiling scheme.............first borrow 2 eggs............or if you are from liverpool.............first ***** 2 eggs

Hi - getting the eggs is not a problem we have a time-share of the local chicken (all eggs from 3-5th September are ours) :P
And i tried it on the ship but could not get silly kettle to stay on - clicked off every time I switched it on and due to amount of steam I was worried I would set of smoke detectors lol - mind you the cabins were lovely and cool so sandwiches etc lasted entire trip. Had to laugh in Norway as we made our way to the local Burger King to find almost everyone else on a budget from ship was there too - we are a cultured lot - lovely country, only stop - burger & chips hehehehe (and it tasted great after sandwiches and cup a soup all day). It was not as bad as i'd thought and I would go again :D

On a budget at Burger King? Last of the big spenders more like.
We got off at Norway and could only gaze jealously at the neon sign and people eating at said burger king. Tuna pots and sandwiches awaited us back in our cabin .
Our kettle worked a treat. Not only would it boil eggs but also warmed up matthesons reduced fat sausages within 10 minutes. The kettle does not have to stay on after boiling, simply leave the eggs in 4 minutes after the kettle has switched off.

We were a bit bored during the day ( shame pool was closed) but nights were fine.

Like the others I would go again, probably take books/dvds/laptop/games for daytime though.
On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.

Granted Burger King is not somewhere I normally go in UK as I find them over-priced but compared to prices on the boat and as we desp needed a hot meal it was the cheapest option once in Norway (from what we could see anyway - if anyone knows a cheaper place on land let me know for next time). Thanks for the info about the kettle - we were trying to keep it switched on constantly to boil eggs *slaps forehead*.
We've been on a couple of these trips before during real bad weather so yeah i'd say this trip was quite good. One tip - DONT have a hot shower! You get scalded everytime someone flushes the loo - I learnt the hard way lol

Yes they do, but not that big - probs bath towel size, but not the big bath sheets like you get in some hotels.

They were not replaced after the first night, but if you don't get them too wet, you should be o.k.

I'm sure you could ask for more if required - we had to ask for 2 extra pillows as only one each provided, and they were brought in about 10 seconds!

    B.

More towels are readily available from the swimming pool area.

  • Me and hubby went on sunday. We left as soon as we could dump the kids, about 11am even though we knew we would be very early for the boat.

We were lucky and had a straight run there, we did see a huge tail back of traffic on the opposite side of the road. A family was sitting on the embankment and their rangerover was on fire!!! Felt really sorry for them- and the people in the queue.

As we had plenty of time we stopped off at Durham as hubby said he had seen it on tv and it looked lovely. We were not dissappointed. Most of the shops stay open untill 5 on sunday so we had a lovely stroll around the town.

From there we drove straight to the dock to make a plan for later that night. We decided to park on the retail park carpark. Infront of Brewers fayre. This was the closest place if you haven't paid for secure parking. We didn't see the housing estate that someone else suggested??
We spoke to a security guy who was at the entrance to the dock who told us that our boat was delayed by 2 1/2 hours but we should still check in at the same time???

We drove back into Newcastle, about 8 miles or so. We went into yates for a free meal (tesco deal vouchers). We were still too early and felt under-dressed so went upstairs to play pool. We haven't done this for years- it was a great laugh even though i was rubbish!!

Check in went smooth, got on the boat and we set sail at about 12.20am. NB- at check in i saw a sigh that said you could take your own food on board but it could only be consumed in your cabin.

Cabin was lovely, more floor space than i had expected. We had a 2 berth sea view. You get 1 towl each and they have a shower gel/shampoo dispenser in the bathroom so no need to take your own if you're not fussy.

We took lots of food but ended up throwing loads away. I was sick on the first day but ok on the return journey. We never ate at the restaurant but the ham and cheese panini we had from the coffee shop was nice. £7 each but a good filling size.

We were late getting off at Stavanger, 9.20pm. We had to get back on at 10.30pm. We power walked to 'Dolly Dimples' pizza parlour. In the rush to sit down and get the food ordered asap we ordered too much food- a large pizza would have been more than enough between us. 1 coffee, 1 diet coke, 2 30cm pizzas cost £40 exactly. The lady gave us a pizza box as she felt sorry for us having to rush off and leave our food. What a romantic anniversary for us!!

Once back on board we got changed and went down to watch the entertainment. First drinks- beer and diet coke cost £6. Hubby treated himself to malibu & pineapple £9.05!!!! I was sneaking my own vodka into my coke

We enjoyed the break, packed too much food, too much clothing. Forgot to take plug adaptor to watch the portable dvd player. Doh!! we managed to entertain ourselves though :)

^^ That'll give an up-to-date perception of how the ferry crossing may feel if the weather gets too bad.

Hope the weather is good to you.

ps.. North Shields (where the ferry leaves from) is nowhere near Newcastle City Centre --- so if you are getting a cheap train upto Newcastle Central Station then add another 30 mins for the Metro [train] transfer to North Shields.
