Gromit - I must admit we were taking sandwiches and things but only because previously someone had stated if you didn't like seafood you would be pretty much screwed! lol
They would have still made money out of us as we were going to be celebrating my birthday and also our engagement so we wouldn't have been holding back on cocktails and entertainment!

Angel - I have no idea. I never heard from anyone after that and so assumed that there was no change and it was still cancelled?

Foxy - Don't worry as it doean't seem to have affected any of the other trips so I would assume it is a one off. If that is the case and you do go I hope you have a wonderful time! :)
    And happy anniversary for Monday!

Due to an unprecedented power surge to the ships main generating plant caused by passengers boiling eggs in kettles in their cabins this weeks sailing must be cancelled while we are awaiting new electrical power generating equipment..............just read on the dfds website.....

    Or.....you may like this one....
DFDS Apologise for the cancellation of this weeks departure as a very strong smell of a gas-like substance has been detected in and around the passenger cabin area that has set off all the low-oxygen detecting sensors on the ship.
    .
.We have now found the cause of the odour.
BING BONG.All passengers are asked to eat their boiled egg sandwiches with the portholes open. BING BONG

  • I was planning on taking our tiny sandwich toastie maker, hubby thinks it will set off the smoke sensors and cause chaos!!
I have invested in this too as i think we will use it alot. It would have been useful a couple of weeks back when we stayed in a travelodge room for 3 nights too. The £15 rooms are a bargain but with no cooking facilities eating out 3 times a day soon gets expensive. We took our daughters 4L pink minifridge but it was soooooo small- useless really.

I have seen plastic electric coolboxes cheaper but this will be more suited to what i want it for, as i plan on taking it abroad in my case too. We always have a hire care and venture out exploring all day.

  • When we went a few weeks ago, there were some notices near to the check-in desk, stating that due to foot and mouth/BSE containment laws, it was illegal to export (ie take with you) various dairy and meat products including sandwiches, milk, butter etc etc.

It was worded quite strongly and made you think that the customs guys would go to town on you. The notice asked for all such items to be placed n the 'bins provided'.

We ignored it and, after everyone put all the food in my case (!) there was no problem.

In fact I did not see any searches at all, so I think it was just a scare tactic as they must know what many people are doing with regards to taking food on board.

A problem was that most of it went mouldy by the second day in the warm and humid cabins.

But if you were spotted with a cool box, then I dare say someone on customs may want a look inside it

    Foxy lady,
That cool bags kinda cool. I have a solid cool 12volt box ( with transformer) and like you say Its not ideal ( if you see someone on the ferry next week- yes, Im the one with the coolbox)

Does your foldable one work well? Mine is just ok, not as good as a real fridge . I would buy one if it works well as off abroad soon for 2 weeks and like you say that would be ideal.

We too thought of taking the toastie maker but as the cabins are so small with no opening windows( I think) we were worried about smoke alarms. ( if you see someone on the ferry next week with a coolbox thats just set the smoke alarm off- yes....only joking, the toastie maker stays at home.

    Cheers

Thanks for info Iamcornholio, ...If you see a guy without a coolbox- thats me.

  • thanks for the info iamcornholio.

The bag is coming on wednesday so i'll have to give you my review when i get back. I did come across this whilst i was looking around. I think its a bargain- abit smaller than the one i have ordered and only works off 12v.

    Foxy Lady ,
I will look into the ebay one as I have recently bought a transformer ( 240- 12) in the woolworths sale ( in store) for a tenner so all I need is the bag .

    Thanks

Probably figured out there would be so many people taking their own sandwiches and boiling eggs in kettles that they wouldn't make a profit.

LOL - by the sounds of it this cruise will be an MSE get-together so if you see a large scots lady with half neon pink hair and possibly a slight green tint to her skin say hi :D

Also please tell me more about this kettle egg-boiling - sounds great to me and never thought of it before - thanks.

PS - Hi to everyone, first time poster, long time reader :)
