    Hi Tea,

Welcome to MSE . If I see you I will say Hi, lol.

About these eggs, I have a travel kettle ( think it was from Argos) . Its usually used for pot noodles and cup -o - soup but someone mentioned on here the possibility of boiling eggs.

I have make various experiments and found the best way for a medium sized egg soft boiled is this. Place eggs in kettle and half fill with cold water and set kettle to boil. When the kettle has finished boiling time 3 minutes and then remove the eggs. Enjoy the eggs in an eggcup or perhaps in bread and butter.
Thanks to Poster above, my ebay electric coolbag is on its way .
Tesco have just done a delivery ( 1000 points) john west snackpots, vodka, mathesons sausages, pot noodles and of course said eggs - true MSE style.

  • Well it appears that some people did go on the cruise this weekend. I have heard back today from someone that went.

Apparently the departure was delayed by 90 minutes but this was later made up. They were told there had been a problem with one of the engines and getting people off the ship from previous trip.

From what they said, it sounded lovely. I am really looking forward to going this weekend. As there will be people from the previous cancelled trip it should be busy. Perhaps we should have a forum meeting to swap all the money saving things we have used on the trip. I am still thinking what to take a the moment. I suppose there is a happy medium between saving money and practically, and not burning down the ship of course.
  • We have been on this trip in its last version last year.

My experience has been added to the other thread previously mentioned. Read it if you want.

My advice is if you fancy a long sea crossing on an albeit expensive cross channel ferry, then it will be fine.

If you go in rough weather it will be HELL.

Rough weather will mean a late landing and no time ashore.

Book and go as early as possible.....and if your motives are a cheap holiday then take your own provisions.

Personally.......I'd take a short break to France anyday in preference...top up with beer and wine....a booze crooze. Seems more expensive....but cheaper in the long run.

You ain't gonna see squat diddly of Norway thats for sure.

  • If you get rough weather in any sea it will be bad. Check out my link to a You-Tube video posted previously.

And you are not taking this cruise to see Norway, the point is to spend a few days on a boat. And in that context this is a good break.

Personally, I'd not bother with France and would rather take cruise around the Caribean. But I doubt that we will see such a trip for £12 posted here.

I don't think there is any comparison between the English channel and the North sea......trust me!

As I said if you wanna spend 24hrs each way in the North sea you'll love it!

Why do you think they are more or less giving them away?......there is only a small customer base willing to take up the offer!

It is only £29 each (it seems a bit to cheap to be true?

what's the catch, is it expensive onboard. I might treat the girlfriends 4 birthday.

  • went on one of these with the sun newspaper 3 years ago, not quite what i expected.
We went to gothenburg. Its basically a ferry not a cruise ship. Most of the staff on our trip were scandanavian and couldnt do enough for their own countrymen but when someone english asked them something they didnt want to know and were in fact actively rude. We paid for the buffet in advance which if you like scandanavian food (lots of fish) you'll be fine. Some people we met didnt pay for food in advance and ended up paying about £12 for burger and chips. We got to Gothenburg and were popped on a coach and dropped in town for about 2 hours, no one gave us any direction about where was good to eat ect, most people ended up at macdonalds as it was the only place they spoke English ( we were lucky and found a lovely place to eat where they spoke english which was good as we couldnt stomoch the ships food)
All in all me and the mrs class it as the trip from hell but i think that was because we went expecting a real cruise not a glorified ferry crossing

    Tom,
Yes it seems that there are no bargains to be had on board . A lot of MSErs take own food/drinks ( have a read of the first few pages) .
