morning all. DOn't be discouraged beanie, i'm sure things will pick up for you. I got discouraged and lost interest for 6 months and gained everything back that I'd lost and I'm here starting again. It trite but a maintain or a small gain is still a win.
Devil, the lucozade could be your problem! But if it's solving your headaches then you don't want to stop with it. Afraid I don't know what to suggest - can you have a lok at the different types of the product out there to see if there is a lower sugar version or something?0 -
Sorry I missed you all yesterday, went out blackberrying and picked 7.5lbs of the blummin' things, everywhere is purple now, I have a purple pink inner sanctum :rotfl: ; I cooked them up with a load of chopped apples ready to strain today and make some jelly jam. I think I'll have to sign up to katiepc's swap box thingy just to get rid of the stuff :rotfl:depending how many jars I end up with. The walk alone, whilst picking them, was a boost to my spirits too, although I'd forgotten to transfer my pedometer from my shorts to my jeans, so I didn't have the benefit of the step count:o ...
...I've just caught up with you all, so I'm pleased katyk to read how you dealt with your DS about the cat, it was very sweet and I hope that you're all in happier mood now...
...Well done all of you who have lost  :T and beanie please don't get so disheartenedyou have extra problems compared to a lot of us, personally I think you're doing great :j ...
...thedevilmademedoit I'm sorry to read of your problems, I would suggest that for a week you weigh and measure exactly what you eat, and keep a record of it, and find out what your BMR is (there is a better link but I can't find just at the moment) and adjust your calororific intake accordingly. I notice your mention of lucozade - This size bottle of lucozade has 231 cals are you taking this into acoount? I hope this helps a bit...
...Victory When I do cottage/shepherds pie I use onions/leeks in the mashed potato to reduce cals. Also, I've come across this idea - bake a potato in it's jacket, scoop it out, fill the shell with your mixture and pile the potato back on top :j It sound great to me (haven't tried it yet - been too warm) as it controls your portion size at the same time. Another thing that I do do, is not to mash the potato, but to thinly slice it and layer it on top, I find I use considerably less potato this way :j ...
...If I've missed anyone out, sorrybut the jam is calling  be back in a bit...
xxxxI wish that I could be the oldest AND wisest....sadly it's not the latterbut my time will come _party_ wooooh hoooh! Beware!!!!!!!

Thanks Victory.
Getting just a wee bit dispirited!
All good things comes to those who wait;)
the devil Lucozade is very high in calories and sugars, I take it rarely when my blood sugars plummet (diabetic) and it is a definete last resort, high sugar rush fix, I appreciate you say they are helping your head-aches but would tablets not help? Could you not go to the chemist and ask for some?
petrichor Thanks for the tips, I was kindly given a link for the WW version with swede and carrot topping which is near to the one I remember seeing a while ago so will give that a go, tonight it is already made from last night (give the flavours time to develop) WW chicken and vegetable curry 2 1/2 points per serving or 265 calories. I love the book my mum gave me time to eat from WW, it is like my new baby!! It has 300 recipes and the way I am going I will be making them all!!
I am taking the day off from cooking today as yesterday was in the kitchen for nearly 4 hours making things for the future when I have less time so today is a This Morning sit and watch it morning!!
I found in Waitrose red lentils in a tin, no need to pre soak, etc just empty the can and pour in that suits me better so bought those and put the amount into the curry, let's hope it is lovely this evening as H is getting it as well!!
Next things I am making are the fish and chips from the cook yourself thin show last night and the other 2 dishes they showed, strawberry and blackberry tart and chicken wraps, got the list of ingredients and off to Sainsburys this evening to buy them and make tomorrow, I love that show-Cook yourself thin and they loose 1 stone in 6 weeks so can't be bad0 -
petrichor the jacket potato idea is fabulous!! i will definitely be trying that one out!
the devil, the fact that lucozade is helping your headaches could mean one of 2 things... either you are dehydrated (my main source of headaches!)- therefore drinking the liquid is helping or you are not eating enough carbs in your diet. IIRC people that go on Atkins often experience really bad headaches, so if in your attempt to diet your carb content is going to low then this could be the cause of your headaches (hence the sugar in the lucozade curing it).
Brighton Belle, think of all the new size 14 clothes you could buy once you've lost those next 9 pounds!! (with any luck there will be a pile here going spare ;-) ).
I have always been a size 10-12 until about 18months-2years ago, so I have kept all my size 10&12 clothes thinking "I'll be back in them in no time" but my wieght was just going up and up and I was begrudgingly buying bigger and bigger clothes... Holding onto these clothes was just kidding myself (besides, 2 years on theyre all a bit out of date). So tonight, I will be ceremoniously chucking them out, which might seem a bit backwards, but for me they are a sign of failure and are actually quite demotivating. Everytime I look at them I think "I can never be that size- was I REALLY only that big once?!".
I think that they need to go (charity shops of course) and then I can reward myself with a fresh new size 12 wardrobe when I actually get there!!! For someone who very much uses food as a self-rewarding mechanism I need to find another vice!0 -
Brighton Belle I've been counting calories and I don't need a dietician I wouldn't have thought. I have been suffering with headaches and I've found that drinking Lucozade helps tremendously. I'll just have to keep batteling with it.
Hi Devil MMDI. I hope I didn't sound like I was treating you like an idiot, as you clearly are doing everything you can. What I meant was, why isn't the dr doing more - surely a first step for her would be to double check what you are eating (which is correctly) so she can eliminate that as the issue and then has to investigate further. I didn't think you needed a dietician.
Sorry about the headaches - I know how debiliataing they are as I get many as a side effect of medication. There is medication out there that might help via your gp ( don't go for over the counter stuff as this makes them worse in the long run if you take more than a 3 does a week). I have drugs that help keep control of the persistant headaches. Having said that, the bummer is they make me hungry all the time which is why I put on an extra 1.5 stone! Nearly lost that now withthe fabulous, never hungry SW diet.
Do go back to the Dr and persist if you can. Tell her about the lucozade and headaches (you probably already have) -it might give her further clues as to what might be going on.
ftb: sounds a good idea getting rid of the clothes and building in anew reward system:j . Being a comfortable size 14 for me is my ultimate goal, as for health reasons I can't always be very active. Drifts off into fantasy land... size 14 here I come...:D
bbI try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
Morning all
Fairly busy at work of late, so apologises for not been around so much.
Went to Boots this morning and was surprised to learn I lost 2lb making it now 18stone exactly and a total lost of 149lb or 36% or my original bodyweight
BMI has dropped from 56.69 to 35.66
For those interested the excel formula for this is BMI = W*703/H^2 (w is weight in pounds and h is height in inches)
So well done to all you losers and anyone who has maintained. Gainers not to worry, day one and back on this journey to 'normalville' as someone once called it
I went to renew my passport yesterday and had one of those moments when you realise that you have lost weight. Ths time was in comparing the difference between the old passpost photo, 9 1/2 years old and the new photo. Someone commented that I looked like the younger brother!I guess it was the horrible specsavers glasses
Right back to work for now, I guess it would be rude not to aim for one more pound? and right the magic 150lb mark

Brighton and ftb, I have twice so far sorted and either recycled or chairty shopped my older clothes as I dropped down through the stones. Its a bit of work but serves as a great reminder that you are doing good and of the progress made. I guess I have down 6 black bags so far and probably could sort another two bags
On the downside, its costs a fortune in new clothes, on the upside, a nice new set of clothes :TProud Member of the Lose Weight Thread on I Wanna..................

well done suggs yes it would be rude not to go for another 1lb:D
I am not so sure I agree ftb about the throwing out the size 12 clothes, you know you were once that, you know you can get there again, why not keep them and look forward to getting back into them? I don't think they are a sign of failure or demorolizing to look at, they are a sign that you know for a fact that you have been a size 12, can be again and WILL be again and if they are only 18 months 2 years old they are not so out of date, they are something to look forward to getting into...0 -
Hi guys! My husband wants to lose some weight and he was going to do the Cabbage Soup Diet but I have done some reaearch on the internet and I reckon that calorie counting is a better idea. Does anyone know where I can find a free guide to how many calories are in different foods?
Looking at the suggested diets etc, I don't think that we eat unhealthily - I cook from scratch, we never eat beef or lamb and only occasionally sausages or bacon - mainly we eat chicken but I think if I can work out the calories, that will be a good way to help cut back.
Thanks!
Kate
