As, unlike Wallnut,

He gave an example to clarify his position, he was in a debate, its what you do , to get your point across. I have no problem with his tone.
Yes, and he lied with his example."No Government has ever been, or ever can be, wherein Time-servers and Blockheads will not be uppermost. The Persons are only chang'd, but the same juglings in State, the same Hypocrisie in Religion, the same Self -Interest and Mis-mannagement will remain for ever" - John Dryden, c 16880 -

Freudian slip?
What else do you expect when you flatly refuse to read the figures that show that you are mistaken?"No Government has ever been, or ever can be, wherein Time-servers and Blockheads will not be uppermost. Most countries would not offer FREE treatment ( at a huge cost ) to a visitor
Huge cost?
What huge cost?
"Third he neglected to mention the actual cost of treating all these HIV health tourists is considerably less than 1p per UK citizen per year."
Source - the link that you will not read."No Government has ever been, or ever can be, wherein Time-servers and Blockheads will not be uppermost. Different threads... Same posters propping up the bar day in, day out... Same !!!!!!. I could reliably predict most of the viewpoints and comments that will appear in any thread. Where's the fun in that? Luckily there are different pubs that one can visit.............0

Seriously, what do you expect in election week?

So he got his figures wrong. Apparently he said 7000 new cases diagnosed each year when it was 6360 in 2012 and 5777 in 2013.
The average cost of treating someone with HIV is £18K pa. Those new diagnoses are going to cost us an extra £100 million each year. But that's just the annual increase.
In 2012, 77610 people were being treated for HIV infection at an estimated cost of around £1.4 billion per annum, or £46.50 per annum for each of us who pay income tax.
HIV is easily avoided through sensible behaviour. It is spread predominantly by ignoring advice to have safe sex, and by IV drug abusers.
It is just one example of where (i) we should be testing people for chronic or serious illness before granting them the right to live here and (ii) we should be making people take more responsibility for their health, and not expect the state to pay for their reckless behaviour. That might be going out seeking unprotected sex. It might be sharing a needle with another drug user. It might be eating so much that you become obese.0 -

Of course not all health tourists have HIV.
Then again the total cost is somewhere between £70 million and £300 million.0 -

Where did he get his wrong figures from, and why did he quote them then?

Do you seriously expect me to answer that? How the heck should I know?
He was out by a factor of 10%. Politicians often get figures wrong, but in this case the argument remains valid. It amazes me that politicians manage to remember correct statistics for the wide range of issues that they are questioned about.0
