Worst country and hotel you ever been to?

I only been to 1 country and 1 hotel, it was Denmark and the hotel was called Hotel Nebo in Copenhagen, it was nice i think, though noisy at night outside, it was in the red light district. Denmark was very nice, very very flat, not at all like Scotland with its hills and highlands, it was expensive, especially rents for places but that hotel was cheap at 35 quid per night.
Food was ok, not great, they had no clue what a pie was, nor did they have fish and chips, the most popular fish was cold pickled herring on black rye bread, and a kind of buttermilk desert they had called Koldskal was nice, though too rich for my liking.
Denmark is the only and best and worst place i have ever been to
I would like to know what your best was and why.

Apologies but I'd like to point out a couple of things OP:
1. So you flew all the way to Denmark to order pies/fish & chips? You could've just gone to Scotland or down your local chippy without flying all that way OP?
2. Then you chose a hotel that was in the red light district and you are saying it was noisy outside, what did you expect? Did you research the hotel on TA before booking?
Personally I like to visit countries and immerse myself in their culture and enjoy their cuisine, some of my trips have been successful others haven't but I would not rate my experience negatively because I couldn't order fish and chips or pies!
My point is, for ME travelling is to experience what I can't get in the UK!0 -
The Talayot Hotel in Cala Millor, Mallorca. The most petty place ever.
Rooms stank of smoke, the was a charge to use the fridge, only a single cheap sachet of shampoo per stay.
Paperback books at reception, usually left behind by guests and free, were charged for.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
Have been fortunate that I have never been in a bad hotel.
Some were certainly better than others but when I've paid £40/night inc full breakfast & 2 free drinks in the evening I am not going to expect to be the same as when I've paid £1,500/night for a suite in another hotel.
As to countries, that would too harsh. Sharm el sheikh I didnt like too much but I do love the rest of Egypt. Even then though if you go to sharm for some winter sun, pretty waters/ fish etc and ignore the hoards of "brits abroad" its ok, just isnt "Egypt".0 -
Cortijo Blanco Hotel. Hotel in San Pedro De Alcantara. First room was filthy so moved to a slightly less filthy room. Run shower for a minute then turn off for two to let the tray drain before repeating. Several rooms had the safes broken into. Green mashed potato.
We mentioned this to some friends we hadn't seen in years & they said they had stayed there & thought it was wonderful.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -
New York city: they drive on the wrong side of the road; they serve tea cold; the youth hostel was expensive and had cockroaches. And there didn't seem to be any local people around: the whole place was full of Americans.0

I stayed in the Dream hotel in NYC - nice hotel, not far from Time Square and Central Park. Food around the city was great.
Full of bloody tourists though. I do quite like Americans; very friendly bunch.
I've never stayed anywhere that I could declare the whole country 'the worst' and I won't stay in a hotel that's got bad reviews; most of the worst hotels I've been to have been in Britain0 -

stayed in a few unpleasant ones in spain, but for the £120 I paid for flights and a weeks accommodation half board I could expect it!0

Worst hotels would probably be a battle between one in Agra and one in Phnom Penh, both of which had electrical issues that could have had serious consequences. Although the YMCA in New York where I was bitten by bed bugs in the first room they put me in was an unpleasant memory too.
I don't really pay for luxury in hotels, as long as they're reasonably comfortable I'm happy and I'll spend my money on other things, although I did splash out for a suite in Bangkok for the last two nights of a 4 month trip which was pretty nice.0 -
Worst place no. 1 but haven't stay. Years ago, hostel in London. There are bed bugs, so after check in for 1 hr, we left.
2nd worst. A hotel in hollywood. Get my wallet stolen in the room. At that time I have one wallet with US $$ and credit cards with me. And another purse with ££ in my suitcase. I completely forgot to take it with me and lock my suitcase when I go out in the morning as I don't expect anyone should get into the room...
Actually, i would rather they just steal the money and leave the wallet..0
