Worst country and hotel you ever been to?

It's all well and good breaking bread and eating with locals but you can get a better experience in your luxury hotel.
Themed restaurant nights and showcase cooking events are very authentic indeed, no, no - really they are. They often have a decent wine cellar too.
.......... and there's a big fence all around the place so that you don't get disturbed or have to put up with the proles interfering with your dinner.
Huh? I suspect that was an attempt at sarcasm?????0 -

Masterpoo seems to think they're all in field in the middle of nowhere, with a dunny down by a stream.:)
Will watch video's later.
"Immersion" = Semantics.....I will agree that your Homestay's are of a deeper immersion than my Luxury Hotels, but still maintain immersion on my part!
Who goes overseas to [STRIKE]order[/STRIKE] enquire about Fish & Chips or Pies, then books into a hotel in the red light district and complains about the noise levels at night then brands it the worst Country & Hotel....OP!0 -
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel,Pasadena gets my vote.
Everything was superb except the champagne which was never quite chilled enough for my liking.0 -
I recently had to spend one night on the island of New Providence (Bahamas) and as my trip was arranged at extremely short notice, when I arrived I found that no plans had been made for a hotel for me to stay at.
This was a Saturday so all of the good hotels were fully booked, as were the not quite so good ones.
I ended up staying in what was optimistically referred to as a "beach resort" and looking at it, I'm sure that it was lovely 20 or so years ago but those days had long gone.
When I checked in I fully expected to be asked how many hours I wanted the room for and which type of condoms did I prefer (they actually had a price list for these behind the desk).
I spent the night sleeping on top of the bed as I thought that this would probably be slightly more hygienic than actually getting into it and I had to pay a $100 deposit to cover losses or damage to the room (for $100 I could have taken everything from the room and probably still have received change).
The cost for this place? $285 US per night room only.0 -

Totally wrong...again!! You should stop assuming, because you only make a "!!!" of "u" and "me" - assume!!!!
OK to make this clear to masterpoo, Denmark is the ONLY country i have visited, so it it BOTH THE BEST AND WORST! If you re read the original first post i said what i liked and did not....and once again, i hope that was clear. If not, well, i guess there is a "common tongue" translator somewhere in a 5 star luxury hotel for those who don't quite understand the common language. LOOOOOOL.Owed out = lots. :cool:0 -

We were totally immersed into the lives of our Hindu family hosts, and it was one of the best experiences of many years of budget travelling.
Every evening we were invited to eat Dal Bhat...

...with the family (3 generations), and then enjoy their company in the lounge, learning about the family, their life, jobs, childrens' education, discussing the day, and what we had planned for the next day. Absolutely priceless.
Having spent 5 weeks in Nepal I'm heartbroken at recent events, yet privileged that we had the opportunity to spend a decent amount of time totally immersed with such wonderful people in a beautiful [but fragile] country.
That khatmandu place is actually very cheap and looks beautiful and clean, so you had to share with the family already there, instead of having the place to yourself?Owed out = lots. :cool:0 -
I notice airbnb are currently waiving the service fees for those displaced in Nepal and giving people the option to offer accomadation for free to the displaced too. Kudos to them.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

All went well in spring of '93 at the rather spartan but clean hotel in Ulan Ude, Buryatia (Siberia), until the second week of my stay, when the city central heating system was shut down for maintenance by the municipal authority. Coinciding with a cold front arriving from the north, the lack of heating and hot water in the hotel or anywhere else made immersion in an icy bath or shower impossible. Cold and unwashed, hunger was also caused by the lack of public availability of a proper meal, until I discovered a canteen in the basement of a large government building, where workers took their lunch. Nobody objected to my immersing myself in the queue to receive a good serving of whatever was on offer, for a few kopeks. Sitting on the crowded benches with a hot plateful of meatballs, cabbage and buckwheat felt like the ultimate luxury!Evolution, not revolution0

Doesn't it! I was homeless in Scotland and felt the same, a hot meal of whatever, some company and a hot drink is like heaven on Earth!!
That was surprising though, if i lived in Siberia i would be prepared for that stuff and have solid fuel burners in case of these things happening.Owed out = lots. :cool:0
