Hi just a late check in. Unfortunately it wasn't a NSD for me. It was all going so well and it promised to be a NSD but laziness and silliness kicked in. The rainy morning didn't help my post night shift malaise so I spent all day in bed. Didn't do any household chores, shameful I know, but I felt I needed the resting phase before I tackle another long week at work. Tomorrow is super full with a to-do-list that is a mile long, (I knew there is a payback for the lazy Sunday I just had). For dinner, the good old friendly Indian takeaway provided our evening meal. It is coming from the dining out budget. £30/£100. We all thoroughly enjoyed the meal although afterwards we were racked by guilt. Well....Tomorrow is another day. Here's wishing.

On a positive note, I might have just saved myself at least £50 for alteration expenses. Last week I went to an alteration shop and they quoted me £20 for shortening and tapering of trousers which I thought was extortionate. I have always shortened my trousers but I have never done tapering. With a price (£20) like that, I decided to attempt to do it myself. I am proud to say I have done the shortening and tapering of 2 pairs of trousers and shortening of one, so a total of three pairs. The trouses were bought very cheaply £3 a pair from an ex-catalogue shop. I didn't have the opportunity to learn how to sew anything beyond pillow cases and curtains so the task above is a major accomplishment, my late mum would be so proud. This has made me realise that maybe enrolling on a dressmaking/sewing course would be a good idea. It would be fantastic to buy a cheap dresses/material and make myself a dress that is so unique and personal. The council usually runs classes but I was late for the spring one. I will keep my eyes and ears open for the next enrolment in the summer. I am giddy with excitement at the prospect.

I bid you all good night and have a lovely bank holiday for tomorrow.

Calling - well donr sorting out the carpet - one of those jobs that bring such a sense of relief and satisfaction once done.

Samiszel - 3NSD eh? Shows your mindset has changed. Well done!

Caeraugirl - mortgagefree after just 10 yrs in your forever home is phenomenal! Go girl!

Doris - glad you had a nice lunch out. Dd and are are both coeliac so eating out is as rare as hens' teeth. Whenever we have a day out it's the lunch bags that take up most of the room!

DrCarrie - I guess working 3 days a week will give you a chance to hone your not spending/ moneysaving skills.

nannyg - hope your day at work passes swiftly.

Thank you marsbargirl for the donation info. I hadn't known that.

theonlygirl - well done on the shortening and tapering jobs! Sounds like you already have the skills to make a dress!

A quiet day planned here in appleworld. Can't believe both dd and dh are still asleep when I've been up a while, read, hadmy coffee, been on here. I guess that is a perfect morning for me!

Have a lovely BH Monday x

    Morning all,

Off to London today, weather is forecasting 19C this afternoon! :) Am going by bus which is only £18 day return. Me and the boyf share an enthusiasm for pubs and am sure we'll visit a couple but am expecting the prices to be eye-watering.....perhaps Wetherspoons is the answer!

Will report back later with the total spend!

Have a lovely Bank Holiday

Bobarella - I like the minimalist idea of not being my stuff too :) I decluttered so much last year that I'm now onto the tough decisions and I've been stalling far too much. Especially over craft stuff.

Marsbargirl - thank you for the info on monetary donation :) i always put my donations in the box at Tesco with the notice that they top up by 30% - I'm extra glad I do now that I know they can take it as cash :)

I'm going to pledge another NSD for today. I don't want to spend any cash though I might be a bit cheeky and get OH to fulfil my chocolate craving :)

And the answer to move - I will do something active every day, even if it is just a slightly brisker walk with the dogs!

I've worked out I can just about make April pay day's grocery and petrol budget stretch to the first of June instead of the 22nd May. It will be a bit squeaky but I'm feeling confident about it. If I do fall slightly short it won't be the end of the world but I've got a proper bee in my bonnet about shifting my budgeting period now!

  • Not a problem guys, I was never aware of it until I started volunteering at my local foodbank :)

Another SFD clocked, DH bought the boys an icecream out of his own spending money so didn't have to dip into my purse, and not going anywhere to spend for the rest of the day. Just a quick update of figures in sig then getting off here to enjoy the rest of the sunshine with the family. Hope to resist the pull of my tablet later in order to keep to my resolution of less internet time....!

Spent on some treats yesterday (wine and nibbles for family movie night), and sponsored a friend £10 for upcoming Three Peaks Challenge, but will still aim for foodbank donation this month too - thanks for info Marsbargirl.

Hope you're all having a good Bank Holiday Monday, May the Fourth be with you Turtles:rotfl: xx

    Bake Off Boss!
Hi everyone :-) managed another SFD today as not left the house! I've had too much to do in the garden as one of the shelves in my cold frame half-collapsed this morning. The damage isn't too severe thank goodness, but I had to fix the shelf and then re-pot the poor plants at the back that had fallen off! Oh dear.
As yesterday was a spendy day already I decided to bite the bullet and pay off the money for the hen do I'm going on in September (asked for the full balance already, gah!) - £160!!! I think this is a lot of money for a hen do, considering it'll take me 4hrs+ to get there too, but the girl is a good friend and I didn't feel like I could say no. So I'm on quite a tight budget for the rest of the month now :D
    Happy bank holiday!
Bought my first house in 2014 - now, to be mortgage free! :D
