On a side note, I called Barclays and they have upgraded my card to the Amex/Visa combo. 1% on Amex, 0.5% on Visa. Not expecting as much cashback as I received previously, but something it better than nothing.
I asked them via the secure message regarding my account, and they said my account is still eligible for the £10/year and 0.5% discount.
Also got my credit limit increased at the same time.I'm pleased to confirm that the changes we've made to cashback don’t affect your account. This means, you'll still earn cashback of 0.50% on all purchases including behaviour bonus of £10 as normal.0 -

Can I ask, did you pay your bills in full every month, or did you have to pay any fines, etc? How much cashback did you earn a year?
I paid mine in full every month, never paid any fees, and earned ~£120 cashback every year. They cancelled my cashback in full.0 -
Put it through the shredder, they can have it back! Account CLOSED!he's not even close tuggy..i took £1,200 off CapOne in 2013.. and that was my backup card:rudolf:
Well not wanting to split hairs, that was my initial reaction, but then I reread it and it was 60k over 6 months rather than a year, which is pretty good going - 120k in a year would have got you over £1800 from Cap1...
Anyway, my cashback has posted now along with the fee refund, so time to get out the scissors...0 -

But don't cut the chip!
I recall a consumer program and a professor at Cambridge Uni advising its best to keep the chip for a while, in the case of any card cloning or denied transactions where the card Company says your card with pin has been used, the card can be read to see if you did authorise the disputed transactions..
Apparently the card has a memory which records every transaction made on it.
So don't cut your card, keep it in the bottom drawer for a while. After reading PtL Vaubans Guide , please don't desert us, hang around and help others!

this is interesting stuff. i would have thought cutting the chip, as part of cutting the card thoroughly, would remove any risk of fraud on your card account.0 -

But, if true, surely the first thing the bank would do in the event of a claimed 'phantom' payment would be to ask for your card, and I never read about it happening. That's not to say it doesn't, of course....
Yes, it is interesting because the 'expert' from the University was saying that very often the banks will say destroy the old card, before returning it to us, but by doing so destroys the evidence that you are innocent of making any such phantom chip and pin transactions.
Apparently every transaction is stored on the card, and if the correct pin was used to verify the transaction.
It was a few years back, when the banks were saying chip and pin was concrete and members of the public were claiming foul play by the banks after suffering phantom withdrawals or card transactions.
The program showed how it was possible to cloan the card details and then use a duplicate cloan card.
It was a posh version of the devices that were stuck on the front of ATMs to catch card data.
I think the risks are very small but worth knowing NOT to destroy any old card or your own card if something like this ever happens. After reading PtL Vaubans Guide , please don't desert us, hang around and help others!

Just found an old BBC article from 2010 which explains what I was trying to say above.

Put it through the shredder, they can have it back! Account CLOSED!Got my cashback this weekend.
Called them to get it credited to my bank account and to cancel the card right away. The (Indian) call centre rep seemed to have no issue with this. The cashback hasn't yet appeared in my current account but I am hopeful it won't be long... Card goign through the shredder tonight.0
