Could you describe your partner's job?

Why is it some people think their relationship must be better because they share the intricacies of their OH job? The last thing we want to talk about really is a post Mortem of what we did at work for other people. I like to think I know more about my OH than what he 'does'.
We find talking about our jobs quite stressful, as we have stressful jobs. It gets a bit tedious.
But we do know what we both earn, the two are not related at all.
Nobody is saying that they think their relationship is better. You are the only one saying that.
People are simply saying that it seems very odd to not know what their partner does as a job. And I said, maybe some couples don't communicate in the same way as others. I never said anything about my relationship being 'better.'Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

Exactly. It's bizarre.Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

Forget about your partners job, some people don't even know what their OWN job entails.

I think people are getting confused between not knowing what their OH does for a job, and not knowing the ins and outs of said job.
I obviously know what DH does for a living (and I'm sure everyone else on here does with their OH's too), I know roughly what he does day in day out, I've got the gist of it, but I don't need to know or understand every detail, and nor do I want to! Tbh, I'm just not interested. It's to do with computer networks, and I agree with Mr Toad about not mentioning it to other people, or else they all want their computer looked at!0 -
DH drives a black cab. From what I can gather he spends a lot of time hanging around on the rank with his mates drinking coffee and moaning there's not enough work :rotfl:Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -
My husband also, has moved into I.T. in the past year, and he has lost count of the amount of people who hound him to fix their computer. And they never ever EVER offer him any money to do it.
I also work in IT and just agree that PC's/laptops are annoying and I just give mine to the desktop team to fix. They can't imagine what I do that needs another team to fix my computer. Sorted
My OH knows what I do, but it's so boring it's impossible to explain to people who are not familiar with it. So much so when folk ask me I try and find out if they are in IT first as I have 2 responses.0 -
I find it hard to describe my own job to other people sometimes...my hubby knows the rough area in which I work and for which company, I wouldn't expect him to get to grips with more than that0

At parties I used to tell people I was a yoghurt salesman, mention computers and you get cornered by people who want you to fix their PC problems, for free, and get offended if you weren't interested. Nobody wants to talk about yoghurt.
Might have to pinch that idea
I understand your pain, I have found people tend to assume because I work in IT I can fix anything that uses electricity and am a replacement for google for any tech queries. :cool:0 -
I know exactly what my husband does, he has a very important job as if it wasn't for him and all the other truck drivers nothing would get anywhere.
He knows what I do, as there have been times when the alarm has played up and he has stayed with me waiting for an engineer (allowing me to send the staff home), and he hovers about while I do bits an pieces of work while waiting.0 -
Yes, because if I just say he's a procurement manager I get asked what that is!
If you had asked him six months ago what I do he would have said Science and if asked to elaborate, something with DNA! Since I was given share options he is more interested in what exactly we are doing!0
