Could you describe your partner's job?

The subject of our partners' jobs came up in a discussion at MoneySaving Towers recently. Several of us couldn't describe what our partners did for a living. We knew the title and roughly what it was but actually describing what they did didn't come easily.

Some of us didn't even know.

Could you describe to someone what your other half does for a living?
Could you do with a Money Makeover?

  • I could, yes. But that is because we both work for the same company (albeit different roles) and I work closely with others in his department. I take a keen interest in what partners do for a living as it's an important part of lives.

    ?? Really?? This is surely 2015 and a bit late for a April's fool's?
You have the right to remain silent.Anything you do say will be misquoted and then used against you ;)

Knowledge will give you power, but character respect.

  • When asked about my husband I usually say 'something to do with pensions' although in reality he transfers pensions out (and I think I know what that means now he's been doing it a few years!) If you were to ask him, he'd know my company name (only because it's in my e-mail address) but if you asked him what I actually did he'd probably say 'science'

Although I do have a bit of a strange job, so I can't be too sad :-)

My wife is a scrub nurse in a hospital theatre and she tells me she spends a lot of time counting things and handing things to surgeons. Sounds about right so I'll say yes, I can tell you what my other half does.

I am a National Account Manager for a large Plc specialising in large scale telephony solutions and customer engagement. I manage over 50 universities across the UK and have been in the industry for many years.

My wife says I am a sales rep.

He's in networks - I could say more but most people have glazed over by now so i stick with the above simple explanation

I know what my DH does, when his shift hours are, when he gets paid, what kind of benefits he has/hasn't got with his employers, when his NMW will increase, what kind of pension scheme he has, etc.

On the other hand, he knows the title of my job. He says I do something with computers. He doesn't even know the name of my company (if he thinks long enough, he can come up with a close match).
