Could you describe your partner's job?

I know exactly what my OH does but to this day she still tells people "He's an engineer, he designs special generators"..... that's as far as it gets !!!
I've given up now trying to explain to her in any even brief detail what I do exactly as the glazed over look usually kicks in after 30 seconds......0 -
Yes, knew exactly what oh did (before he retired) how much he was paid and his pension set up, (same with ex). I also know exactly what his seasonal part time job involves and his pay. Ditto for me (before I retired)0

Seriously??? :rotfl:
Not read any posts in the thread yet, but how on EARTH can you not know what your spouse/partner's job is?! I am guessing it's mostly women who don't know their man's job? Maybe I am wrong.
I am also guessing that these people don't know how much their partner earns either, and they probably have separate bank accounts.
How odd. Me and my wife know exactly what each others jobs are, and what we both earn (joint bank accounts,) and we both have access to all the money we both earn.
I don't think I even know anyone who doesn't know their spouse/partner's job. Is this a wind-up? :rotfl:
It is, isn't it???

I do know what OH does mostly but he works for an agency so his job can change from one day to the next but all really within the same sector and he tells me at the end of the day what he's been doing that day. I just tell people he's an agency worker, and that his job can change daily, there is no other explanation.
OH knows that I work with computers, he knows it's to do with networking, repairs and maintainence and that I also deal with the customer services department so he tells people I deal with angry shouty people.0 -

That's my OH. Although I might suggest he adds car valet to his c.v. & underline the painter & decorator bit. (It's just we've got *used* to the hole in the ceiling.)
He'd say I do something with Accounts (if he remembers the briefing) but the standing joke is that he "doesn't think he's allowed to say, Official Secrets Act etc". Being a Civil Servant can sometimes try my civility.0 -
I know what OH does (it's a trade). He knows my job title, and the company I work for but I think he'd struggle to explain what I actually do. I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than waste my free time talking about a job that bores me to tears.0

I know what my DH does as I met him at work.
I have since changed jobs and he couldn't tell you what I did as the minute I start talking about work his eyes glaze over. He just says 'Something to do with IT' when people ask!

When Mr bugs was alive, I knew exactly what he did (and what he didn't;)), mostly because he worked for me:D. Nowhere to hide:rotfl:0

At parties I used to tell people I was a yoghurt salesman, mention computers and you get cornered by people who want you to fix their PC problems, for free, and get offended if you weren't interested. Nobody wants to talk about yoghurt.
When I worked as a travel agent I used to get "can you get me free holidays" or getting asked endless specific holiday questions - from people I barely knew. I loved my job but I didn't want to be doing it for nothing on my days off with strangers - I used to get the neighbours knocking when their broadband or computers stopped working because of my current job- Now I've moved the new neighbours don't know what I do so they don't ask.
When my Mum and Dad were courting they belonged to a rambling group Mum said as a joke she was a policewoman - everyone laughed except one slightly dim girl who believed her- and for the next year was always asking if she had any interesting cases. Mum never had the heart to tell her it was a joke so went along with it for a year. She didn't learn her lesson though and when she worked for the local chocolate factory in the accounts department and was asked what did she'd tell people with a straight face she was a chocolate stirrer ! Very dry sense of humour my Mum.
I've always known what my husband/partners do for a living in detail - the men I've dated were generally career focused so what they did was important to them - I guess if it wasn't maybe I'd not have known so much about it though.
My partner knows what I do because I work from home - His job is very manual but he reckons mine is as hard as he wouldn't have the patience to talk to people all day and do technical troubleshooting with them without losing his patience and temper with them !
One thing that used to amaze me both as a child and as an adult when I worked in education was how often kids had no idea what their parents did for a living or what it involved too so it isn't just partners.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
