Off doing a road trip on the West Coast of America for 24 days. Only around 4 weeks to go now! Feels like I've been waiting for this holiday for ages.

well, I can relate to the O.P. we have just came back from Tenerife last night, and after having 10 holidays abroad in the last 31 months, I have withdrawal symptoms because our next holiday is not until Sept 7th, 139 days to go.......that seems way too long to wait.....but before our first holiday 31 months ago, there was a 25 year gap of having no holidays at all(kids and mortgage stuff)

wow! that went quick, only 9 days to go now.

I was having a think last night. I was all set on a 2 week trip to US east coast but the cost was starting to look a little frightening. I could easily do SE Asia for half of the price overall. I need to make some decisions over the weekend...

Know exactly how you feel. Was looking at a US road trip for Spring and I keep thinking I can do Asia so much cheaper. Especially some of the hotel prices in US, silly prices in the tourist areas for hotels which are not a patch on Asian hotels in general.

Really depends what you want from a holiday though, comparing a USA road trip to a holiday in Asia is like comparing apples and bananas. Both can be great, but they are completely different.

On a road trip a hotel is just somewhere to sleep, the holiday is in the places and experiences in between. (And, having done several USA road trips, there are always cheaper hotels to be found outside the tourist centres)

Our last holiday, in July, was lovely until MIL died halfway through. We were on a Baltic cruise, and had to jump ship at the next port and fly home...not a great ending, and sadly our curtailment costs weren't covered by travel insurance as it was a pre-existing illness she'd had for a year :( (We had known this, but had taken the chance of a break...cue Sod's law coming into play!).

So now we've dealt with all the practicalities and are feeling a bit better, we're off for a few days by Lake Garda via a lovely little place called Brescia in Italy. And if anyone is thinking about dying whilst we're there they can flaming well wait til we're back!

Did those of you who travelled over the Summer school holidays have a good holiday?

I've been too busy with work and house renovations, only this eve did I book our next holiday (cruise over Easter). Struggling to find reasonable flights to SA for Christmas, might not go.

Anyone got any exciting plans for Christmas 2015?

    Nothing exciting planned for Christmas.

Just got back from France 2 weeks ago and thought I'd better get next summer's holiday sorted so have just today booked another gîte holiday for next July.

But we still have SA (October),Dubai (Feb) and Amsterdam (Mar) to enjoy before that. Will soon be turning my attention to next October. I want to do Sharm but will have trouble persuading my OH at this point in time.

Where is your cruise going, Masterpoo?
