Flip flops + walking shoes only. 7 ish tops. 1 warm item like a cardi. 5 pairs of trousers/skirts/dresses. Pants and bras. PJ shortees. 2 swimming costumes. Many many places to get clothes washed for pennies. All fits with room to spare. I got loads of stationary in Cambodia as it's so cheap and it's great for prizes in my classroom, and could fit it all in as well as the new boots I had custom made in Phnom Penh at Beautiful Shoes.
Was so glad we packed this way when we got stuck in transit in Bahrain - we were in the hotel quite happily going swimming while waiting for the plane out, sunbathing, and changing into fresh clothes. Felt so sorry for people who were trying to sunbathe in jeans and long sleeve tops, trying to make the best of it.
You really shouldn't have told me that, now I have to go get shoes made there, I bet they were cheap and very well made with genuine leather. FABULOUS! I too would probably get custom made riding boots etc, you see what you've done, I'm already thinking how many custom made shoes can I get made! DAMN YOU :rotfl::beer:
So now I'm going to look for a video on the art of packing light and just the correct amount.0 -

I can't NOT tell people about Beautiful shoes. I had a pair of knee high boots made there in 2012. Lasted so well and it is wonderful to have them custom made to fit my overlarge calves - they measured all the way up the leg to make sure it was a good fit.
Last year they made me some ankle red leather boots. So lush. Plus hubby had a pair of work shoes made which are the comfiest he's ever worn.
You go in, look at the styles on show and put together the toe/detailing/heel etc that you like the look of from about 5 pairs of shoes. You then choose the colour leather you want. They then take a mountain of detailed measurements, and 3 days later you go back and collect your beautiful shoes for a bargain price. Can't recommend them highly enough.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Bylromaha I tried rolling but compared to folding I found my clothes were more creased.
There's this as well MP http://theproject333.com/getting-started/
I think I'm happy with my packing as although I take that lot, most of it is flimsy lightweight weight stuff. May ditch a pair of sandals & a couple of shorts though.0 -
Often it's not the way you pack (although I'm a roller too) but what you pack too. It's all about the fabrics - anything that needs an iron to get rid of the creases rather than be hung in a steamy bathroom to de-crease stays at home
I can manage a week anywhere moderate to hot with hand baggage only -last trip was Maryland, Phoenix and Vancouver in a week and even with the differing climates it was possible. Not sure I could have done it in winter thoughI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
A tip for clothing on holiday that has worked for me over the years, particularly to America is to take and wear all my old and worn out clothes, wear them once more then bin them over there.
This leaves me plenty of space in my suitcase for new clothes bought cheaply over there and any souveniers as well.
I don't live on the edge of fashion and I am not particularly bothered by the odd crease and its not as if I am going anywhere high class so who cares if my t-shirt has a hole in it or the bottom of the trouser legs are a bit frayed, its highly unlikely that I will meet any of those people again and even if I make friends and do go somewhere classy, I can always buy some clothes earlier than I would normally for the event.0 -

I see you have some savings already, I loved it the first time I was away, even if you go for a year spend a month getting to Oz a bit of travelling then finding a job to fund even more travelling. There are always jobs for backpackers weather its in a shop, bar work (you need to do a course but its cheap) hotel/resort work. If you dont mind what job you do and go with an open mind you will be fine!!
I would say though have bit of a slush fund either kept with family or a friend that you trust so if things go a bit t*ts up you know you can get back home or just to get to another job.
xx
Yeah I'd leave it in an account with my mum as there's a branch with one in town so I know she would put money in if needed.:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one:beer::beer::beer:

Not got around to booking yet but planning another road trip across BC and Alberta hopefully spending some time on Vancouver island, for 2016. Off to Wales on a Sun Holiday in June will tour South Wales and the Brecon Beacons, looking forward to that too. Hopefully we can fit in a week in Scotland, again booking accomodation through The Sun, but for Scotland we will fly up and hire a car, as i'm on the south coast it saves me 2 days of driving and leaves more time to enjoy the destination, had enough of driving up and down the M6 with my last job!!0

I agree duchy it's all in the material. I love the stuff where you can screw it up, jump up & down on it & sling it in a corner, & still no creases.0 -
Plus if you ever have too many clothes wear them on the plane (in America ive got a photo of me wearing I think it was 7 pairs of shorts, few coats around my waist plus a few other bits. Saved paying for them to go in the hold:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one
