I had my Ultrafast Fibre installed yesterday and so far, so good.

I tried the BT Wholesale testing just now and it gave me 75mb down with 19.7mb up, but that's been the average with all of the other testers i've tried as well.

I've certainly been aware of all of the opinions against joining them though.
  • I have been with SSE Broadband for a year. It is a two year contract. At exactly one year in the speed has dropped to 2.89Mbps download. This is faster than dial-up but not fast enough to stream films from Amazon Prime, so my non-returnable subscription to them is useless. The speed is so low in fact that some speed-tests failed. There have been no hardware changes in my home and it is the incoming service that has slowed. SSE sub contract to Talk Talk and it is noticeable that it is at peak times (i.e. weekends) that the speeds are lowest. I will be taking it up with Trading Standards as I intent to cancel my direct debit an argue that SSE are in breach of contract and refuse to pay penalties if SSE don't get their act together.

They don't subcontract to Talk Talk, they buy from Daisy Wholesale
  • I joined SSE after my plusnet contract expired because they had a better deal. I was due to be connected on 5 July. An engineer called to install the equipment and left without getting it to work. I phoned almost every day for three weeks asking for the engineer to return as nothing was working. It took over three weeks for them to finally send someone. I had no internet access all that time plus the angst and agony of hanging on a phone hours on end. Shocking service. Recommend you avoid.

Could be worse, you get no engineer as the next appointment is in 4 months time with Talk talk

I joined SSE after my plusnet contract expired because they had a better deal. I was due to be connected on 29th July. An engineer called to install the equipment and left with it working.

I tried to access the control panel to start setting up my devices and the internet connection dropped out and the light went off on the router.

I rang SSE and, while I waited for 45 minutes before someone answered, the operator was quite helpful and even offered to ring me back later that evening as I had to take a phonecall.

She rang back at 7pm and we went through a few diagnostics and she suggested I try plugging the ethernet cable into an empty port which solved the problem and my internet has been spot on ever since.

Certainly can't fault them at the moment.

So basically you got a faulty router that doesn't do wireless and now instead of giving you a new one they force you to use a Wired connection lol

No, the router is fine - i've got my iPhone connected to the 5ghz wireless connection without an issue.

I've got all of my other devices - freesat box, android tv box and nas drive connected to the other ports also without an issue.

it might be the case that that one particular port is duff, but I haven't gotten around to trying it again. i will do at some point though.

Stick with what you know is what I say.

Basically if it ain't broke don't fix it.

    Should've stayed with Plusnet.

Can you go back? Coz I doubt SSE will get any better.
Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

I still wouldn't accept a faulty router where one of the Ethernet ports is broken. Would you accept a TV that has a broken HDMI port?
