SSE broadband feedback

Few on thinkbroadband don't rate it. Poor peak time performance.0

I had a look at SSE before I went with Plusnet and their online tool said they don't provide service at my address. My guess is that it's because I have a TalkTalk line which is not compatible. Certainly, Plusnet said that I would need a line conversion but they are doing it for free.0

I've had SSE standard broadband for nearly 18 months and it's not been any better or worse than EE, Sky etc. The 18 months deal is coming to an end and I'm being quoted £21.49 pm to carry on. Read on MSE that 76Mbs ultra fibre (quoted at 25-52mbs for my address) is available for free for 18 months if I sign up for a £21 pm landline deal. Should I?0

If you've been happy with the service so far, which it sounds like you have, then I would.I've had SSE standard broadband for nearly 18 months and it's not been any better or worse than EE, Sky etc. The 18 months deal is coming to an end and I'm being quoted £21.49 pm to carry on. Has anyone got it? Thinking of going for their £21 a month deal but can't find any reviews?
I had it for a few weeks earlier this year. It was OK in the daytime, but in the evenings and sometimes at weekends the speed dropped from about 28mbps to 6mbps - and sometimes even lower than that.
YouTube and BBC iPlayer became problematic.
They paid for Openreach to come out and check the line (always useful, because the faceplate can be replaced with the latest version) and as expected there was nothing wrong. The real problem is with their supplier, Daisy, and they know that.
Customer service is excellent - nice company to deal with.
For anyone thinking of signing up, I'd suggest you get a written assurance from them about constant speeds before you do it. That way you can get out of the contract penalty-free if you need to - I'm now back with BT again on a new customer rate as a result!

I was with them for fibre but as above, shocking speeds in evening , i managed to leave, my advice don't do it0

Exactly the same for me as Deanos. I had their fibre. If you value your sanity don't go anywhere near. Evening speeds were horrendous.0

Don't touch this with a 50ft barge pole. It will be alright for 17 hours a day but at 1600 each day the most aggressive traffic management I have ever seen kicks in and reduces EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING to a crawl, even on a fibre connection. Mine connected at around 40 meg but when traffic management is applied this drops to around 2 meg and becomes unusable until 2300 each day. After 2 months of constant complaining they let me leave without penalty. AVOID at all costs. Pay a little more and go elsewhere.0

Just noticed that they are now charging £38.49 per month, up from £21!0

I have just changed-over from BT phone and Infinity 2 to SSE phone and ultrafast fibre broadband on their 18 month contract on line rental and "free" calls 24/7 for £16 line rental, £5 call anytime package and "free" broadband (total £21 per month, was paying over £61 per month to BT for something similar which included features that I haven't used).
Included in the SSE 18 month package is free internet parental controls and Anti-Virus software supplied by NetIntelligence. The parental control software loaded OK. The AV software had to be downloaded from within the NetIntelligence control Panel web-site. However the AV software is not compatible with Windows 10 (confirmed by the SSE helpdesk) which is not good. It was one of the extras from BT that I was grateful for.
However the SSE helpdesk have credited my account with £30 (or at least she said she would - I haven't signed into my on-line account yet to check) to get my own AV software, which is helpful. I thought I would post this as a warning to others who have Windows 10 that SSE's AV is not compatible.
Time will tell whether the Broadband speed is any good in the evening.0
