Make sure its an official complaint, they have 6 weeks to resolve it, take regular speed tests, speedtest.net and bt wholesale are usually ok as daisy let traffic through to them , so make sure you use quite a few others and take screenshots of results

i used http://testmy.net/download as you can set it to automatically run every so often , make sure you create an account then it will log everything, mine went downhill around 4pm every night and when you see it on a graph its quite obvious
  • Thinking of switching from BT to SSE as it will be cheaper per month plus they give £25 on the energy account (and it looks like £50 via Quidco) but are there any downsides?

We've only ever had BT or Virgin, both are fine until something goes wrong and then their service isn't particularly great anyway.

The only consideration I can think of is we have very thick stone walls and the BT Hub just about goes half way across the house so wondered if the router from SSE was as powerful?

    Anything else I'm missing?

The wireless can be extended via a plug-in extender so that isn't necessarily a sticking point these days. Basically you sync them to the existing wireless then plug them in somewhere else - viola, wireless in parts of the house where the main box doesn't reach :)

There shouldn't be any other problems, the line will still technically be BT (via Openreach) anyway and you should be able to keep your number.

SSE not be the cheapest option out there (when I looked anyway) but your money and your choice at the end of the day.

I would not goto SSE. Very bad posts about their speeds on here.

Go anywhere else, EE, plusnet, talktalk etc

I have been with SSE for energy for 8 months and broadband/phone for 17 months and I am very happy overall. I have not had to contact them at all concerning broadband/phone problems. I am currently paying £12 a month for unlimited b/band and weekend calls. Contract up in July 2017. Currently the best deal I have found is Origin via Top Cashback which works out at just over £11 a month for 2 years for the same as I have now but no inclusive calls.

One other point - if you want to use over-riding phone service providers, like me, e.g. TopUpNow, you need to check if you can as some main providers do block them. It would be helpful if MSE could provide this info. when highlighting broadband/phone deals.

Plenty of very bad posts generally about TT, avoid them as well.

My sister lives in a area covered by Virgin cable and BT ADSL, no BT fibre available, but SSE keep phoning her up and offering Fibre which even BT acknowledge in not available at her address. So I would add SSE to the avoid list too.

SSE were absolutely adamant they could not provide me with fibre or even a phone line. Every other provider could and they could switch me if I signed up. SSE said they couldn't do it full stop, not even as a new line for some strange reason.

    Oh well, their loss.

I've been with SSE for a while now and have no complaints.

  • HI we joined SSE on the 21.4.17 we have had nothing but problems first a fault on the line that took 8 days to fix then we were told it would then take 10 days for the box to learn where it was we weren't told this before we joined we have been patient then SSE capped us from 8mbps to 1mbps we tried to cancel this but as it was on the 21 day we were told we could not even though we did not have a service for 8 days and only partial service for another 10 we even went to the ombudsman who seems to think that 8 days with no service and 10 with partial is acceptable why we took so long for us to cancel is we tried to sort things out with SSE but in the end we got fed up but when we tried to cancel the contract they told us no so we are stuck for 18 months we will be leaving at the end of it but are not happy and would not recommend them to anyone the customer service put a wall between you and them when you have a problem any suggestions anyone can help us with would be great
  • Have been with SSE for just shy of 23 months now and never had a problem with disconnections or broadband being unusable.

I'm on the original half price 2 year broadband deal and it's been lovely paying £24.50 a month for 76mbps fibre optic.

The address some of the above, yes it's true the speeds are nowhere near that quick. I average around ~45mbps download but my upload speed has been truly consistent at +19mbps which I cannot emphasis how much I love.

Those speeds are far quicker than what I was previously used to (Less than 5mbps download and less than 1mbps upload from Sky)

Times I've contacted customer services they've been cracking - The queues can be horrifically long at 1 hour plus but hey ho, when you get through to someone eventually at least it wasn't in vain.

I'll be sad to leave SSE soon as the deal's ending but I'll give them a ring before I do and see if they can offer me anything good. Can't hurt eh?
