Tax Credits Renewals - 2015

Well I rang tax credits 46 mins on hold to find out why I got a payment early and its an extra payment generated cause my renewal form went out 19th April.
She said my payments have decreased slightly cause of the extra payment but they are provisional as this year I have to reply to my renewal either by post or telephone to confirm once I receive my renewal pack,
Disappointed as last yr I had auto renewal so don't know why I have to renew this year and ring through again hopefully not for 46 mins again!
But thought id let you know why I got my extra payment0 -
We got a renewal letter today, husband rang and did it over the phone which was fine for younger child but they said to ring another number about the one in college which was confusing at first.
Anyway he did and they said that they check the over 16's in education every year now and they just needed some details so that was then all fine.
She is in the first year of a two year course so will finish in summer 2016 but they said they can't extend it beyond August yet so to ring back then and as long as she carries on they will extend it to the following summer.
This reminded me of when she left secondary school and dropped off the claim automatically then was readded so for one payment her tax credits did not appear although I know that annually it evens out.
My husband asked if this was likely to happen again because we like to prepare for the 'missing' payment and they said they don't know so best prepare in case I should think.
It's actually her 3rd year in college because after the first year the course she was on fell apart due to sick tutors,no replacement staff etc so she swapped course and last year she did not fall off the claim and need to be readded but it seems things are different this time so I think we should prepare for that 'missing' week if that makes sense.0 -
I phoned yesterday to do my renewal, didnt think i would have to this year as last year was auto renewal presumably due to me being on income related ESA.
any way nothing has changed single claim , IR ESA, 1 child who leaves education this year, who is on enhanced pip both components.
been told it will take up to 10 weeks to process my renewal , i did ask why it will take that long and she replied thats how long it takes to process a renewal.
does this seem excessively long time frame when they are no changes to report, only esa as income.
thank you0 -
thank you for your reply blondebubbles, it makes sense now.0

Think I'm in for a long wait again, but concerned this year as I had bonus and not sure how to work out my new payments and how much drop I will get in new payments0

Is it normal to get an extra payment when your renewal is sent out?0
-
not sure if its normal or not to receive an extra payment when renewal forms are sent out.
ive had my renewal form and i didnt receive an extra payment, not sure why some are receiving extra payment. i know when your renewal is processed this usually generates an extra payment0 -
Hi, yes that's what I originally thought that extra payment was a sign it was auto renewed but she said mine wasn't auto renewal and that it had an R after it meaning it was definitely reply required!
It still hasn't come yet so will post back when the forms arrive.
I do believe though they have my accurate earnings as I updated then in January so my award shouldn't changed too much.0 -

So if they send the forms just after you've had a normal payment you're less likely to get an extra payment. If just before a normal payment, you're more likely to get an extra payment.
In the past they didn't do it when they sent the forms out, only when the renewal is processed.0
