It is that time of year again. Renewal packs will be sent out until the end of June. Last year was the first time that online renewals were used for a lot of claimants.

From the Gov website:
You can renew your tax credits online if you've got a renewal pack with both:

an ‘annual review’ with code TC 603 R
an ‘annual declaration’ with code TC 603 D

You must renew by phone or by post if your annual declaration has the code TC 603 D 2

The 2015 renewal pack notes can be seen here

What types of claims will get ones that have d2.
Last year I had auto renewal in June didn't need to do anything hoping it will be the same this year

I have a suspicion the D2 is self-employment claims from a quick bit of googling; but I might be wrong.

EDIT - the D2 is when HMRC require more that one year's info.

Hopefully they've learnt the lesson from last year and won't simply ignore the figures people provide, and make the assumption they're either mistaken or fraudsters without first questioning why there's a discrepancy with P60 figures etc.

The Tax Credits renewal online page went live yesterday so it would be safe to assume that packs have already been sent out. To renew online this year you have to verify your identity using Experian (if you have a driving licence) or the Post Office (if you have a passport and a driving licence). I opted for the first. It was all fine until it asked me questions on my credit file at the end. One was a catalogue account which I no longer use (when was it opened? No idea) and the other 3 were about my current account. It asked me for my current account number beginning 5 and ending 8. My account does begin with 5 but doesn't begin with 8. I got it wrong so I got locked out. Think I'll renew through the post this year.

This morning I had a call at work from Tax Credits asking me to confirm my bank details, my hours of work and my employer's name. Never had that happen to me before. I was certain it was them due to one of the password questions set up a few years back being asked.
  • That sounds odd them ringing you at work asking you questions.
Why would they want to know your bank details if they are already paying it in your bank!

and how did you know you had to verify through Experian?

You have to register for a GOVUK ID to renew online. To do this they have to verify your identity using one of three companies. Experian is one of these companies.
  • I just had a look at the link you kindly posted.

I will wait to see if I can renew online before I go through that verification.

Last year I had auto renewal anyway so hope for the same again, but actually I like to renew over the phone anyway so you know its done!
  • I got my exemption card yesterday for prescriptions to cover me for 7 months, so how have they sent this already?

I didn't think we got that just yet?
  • Well following exemption card i had payment go in bank way less than normal but few days early so going to ring them today to see why and how this effect my normal payment next week
