So sorry its been a horrid few weeks for you, well done for keeping going. You are absolutely right - money isn't everything. Best wishes to your husband for a speedy recovery, and good luck in your interviews.

Just popping on to update,
been a horrid few months, so much to sort out and seems like dh has had very little time to actually rest and recover following his op but amazingly the consultant is very happy and says he's on the right track and the pain should start to decrease in the new year so that's good news and something to look forward toI know the whole situation is driving him slowly bonkers especially not being able to work and feeling awful that there's no wage coming in but trying to look on the bright side (hard to always find it though)
Anyway money is just that at the moment, I still haven't totted up the debt total, I've been making all payments as normal so it hasn't gone up but at the moment without a wage I know I will feel more afraid knowing the cruel figure, I just can't deal with that too right now so will continue as we are until bravery sets in or dh is back to work
I haven't found any workI've applied for absolutely everything that's been advertised, about 20% have got back to me the rest ive heard nothing, I'm starting to think there's something wrong with me !
ah well I will keep trying
We haven't started to use our savings yet but what with xmas I think we will need them in the new year, we've been able to claim some benefits which I have to admit was the lowest point of this whole time for me, we've always worked very hard and earned our own money and having to ask for help was dreadful.
At the moment life is one long round of appointments, hospitals dr's therapists but I've done my best to make xmas budget friendly and as special as it usually is. I do spoil the children at christmas because they don't have very much throughout the year unless it is something they need because they have grown etc so this year has been hard reigning in my spending but ive done ok and we are lucky as xmas is very much family focused not just centred around presents
On the whole a pretty tuff end to the year, looking forward to a fresh start and eventually getting my hubby backTotal 15th April '15 :£12594.00

Been such a long time since I updated my diary !
These last few months have been a long old road, it's been about 11 months since my hubby became unwell and I'm sad to say he still isn't back to full health, 2 operations so far and intensive physical therapy and now waiting for the third, he's getting around more but living with pain all day every day, which, as you can imagine, has been taking its toll.
We've had to accept that, for now, our little family has a totally different kind of life than the one we had been working on, and towards, and had planned out.
All thoughts of moving to a new home have been scrapped, hubby won't be back to work for at least another year, but I'm finally working, at first I had to give up all ideas of work to care for hubby, it was so hard to accept that we weren't able to earn our own money, but now he doesn't need 24 hour help I'm pleased that I have been able to get back to self employment doing what I love, I also have part time employment starting next week which will be great for my bank balance but also my state of mind as 24 hours a day with the one you love in constant pain really does take its toll,
Money wise, we have made a huge dent in our savings to be able to live these last few months, I have had to also increase some of our debts due to a few large bills with the cars etc, I was also a little silly and took the children clothes shopping and spoilt them, partly things they did need due to growing, but also things I would normally have said no to, branded items, but they've also had a hard time and have been so fantastic helping out with their dad, doing things children shouldn't have to do and not one complaint so I just wanted to let them have a day without worry or stress and I plonked it all on a credit card ! oooops ! Silly I know but it was lovely to see them all smiling and laughing
Apart from that I have kept up with every debt payment, I haven't missed anything, I had a couple of late payments when hubby was in hospital but I contacted them and they were very understanding, which was great as I've been fretting about not damaging our credit score.
I haven't done any counting of totals yet.
I haven't been able to clear anything.
but I am ready to start concentrating on our debt again.
Deep breaths !
So first things to do:
-Start keeping my diary again,
thought about starting a new one but decided this has my whole journey so I will keep to it.
- Add up my totals
- see if anything can be moved around
- work out if any payments can be increased slightly once I've started work.
- build up our savings again as I don't feel safe without them
- take more deep breaths !Total 15th April '15 :£12594.00

Hi Lastfewsteps,
Sorry to hear it has been a hard few months but it sounds like to are starting to adjust and get in top of things again. Well done on the extra part time work and getting back to the SE work which you love. Don't feel too guilty about splashing out on the kids, If there is anything that I don't fell guilty about it is the money I spend on kids, whatever it maybe for. Sounds like they have been wonderfully supportive throughout.
Hope hubby continues to improve, if it's a year or more before he can get to work so be it, health and family has to come first:)
Keep taking deep breaths, take it a step at a time and Keep posting
