MSE News: EE customers without signal can have calls connected via wifi

  • So if you have no signal you have to subscribe to the internet and have a landline in order to get an EE signal or be able to use the EE service.

I assume EE will pay for your landline and web connection so you can use their mobile service in this way?

I recall seeing an EE 4GEEE advert somewhen ago boasting that is this now time to dump your landline!

Why do you want a landline? It isn't a requirement for WifiCalling.

Is it now possible to have internet (hence wifi) in your home without having a landline now? That's great news!

Yes, it has been possible for a while (it's not necessarily all that much cheaper not taking the phone though).

You can also use WiFiCalling on public wifi systems.

If you had actually read the thread before depositing your pearls of wisdom you might have noticed that it's already been posted about the difference between apps and WifiCalling. The apps don't work very well, and built in WifiCalling is not an app.

Three intend to have proper WifiCalling by the end of the year.

A little more research before posting what you think are facts next time?

EE Wifi calling works brilliantly on my iphone 6 - i've switched off the the GSM radio so am just on wifi at home and the battery lasts a bit longer as the phone isn't always looking for a 3G signal. I'm off to Hong Kong & NZ soon so hope to use EE wifi calling free of charge there using a UK vpn - i have the OpenVPN app running airvpn so hopefully that should fool EE into thinking i'm still in the UK ;)

As i suspected EE wifi calling works flawlessly abroad via a VPN. Currently using it in New Zealand to make & receives calls to UK :p

I have been having a lot of trouble with this and called them yesterday, they confirmed what I had read on a couple of forums that if you did not get your phone from an EE shop then you will not be able to use this service.

feels particularly wrong as I am paying EE for my contract but not able to use all of the services available, also that Phones4U (who I got my phone from) closed as a result of EE's decisions.

do I have any grounds for EE breaching contract?
