Gen, if it isn't too much trouble, what is the situation with care homes for the elderly, with or without dementia?

Are they fully funded, part funded?

It's a bit complicated but it basically works thus.

    1. You pay three fees for aged care. The basic fee, the accommodation fee and the means tested fee.
    2. The basic fee is set at a level of 85% of the age pension so an old person can definitely pay for their care as it will always be less than their income
    3. The means tested fee is a capped amount that is paid according to your means, i.e. your assets and income. Your family home is generally considered as part of your assets. If your OH is still alive the value of your assets is considered to be 50% of the assets of the pair of you.
    4. The accommodation fee is also a means tested fee in effect.

I currently have 2 boilers, thinking of changing them for 1 before they die.

That would free up 2 kitchen cupboards.

    Opinions on this welcome.

If a shower over a bath is main shower I would probably go for a p-bath.

We have 2 showers over standard 70cm baths, both have screens, don't like shower curtains. In the small shower room we have 900x800 with a pivot door and in the posh ensuite we have a walk--in about 850 wide and the side screen is 1000 long - then we also have a large free standing bath.

We have extended right to the boundary, better than having a small inaccessible crack(!) but these were side boundaries and I wonder if yours might be the end of someones garden? Could you make the back room and shower room full width and the front glass bit two feet narrower so you can fit a small wndow in the short section of the shower room wall facing the front?
    I think....

Our downstairs bathroom is about 8 by 3, shower at one end, toilet at the other back to the short wall and basin in the middle - I don't think with 10 feet you could fit both a shower room and a corridor, we have 11'6 so it works ok. The shower room could go all the way across and you could make a new door from the big room to your new room?

I don't think a small window in the corner above the toilet would be a problem.

My shower over bath has a screen - makes it a death trap! I lean into the bath to turn on the taps and have to lean my left hand on the wall, while reaching with my right hand (just) to turn the taps on .... and sometimes I nearly slip/fall head first in! Whoever designed that idea must've been really long-armed.

There are various types of screens. Not all of them will give you the problem you describe. The one in my ensuite is a single panel, but will pivot out away from the bath until it's along the wall at right angles to the edge of the bath. No trouble with accessing the taps at all, and no trouble with cleaning the shower without having to climb into it either, which is another problem with immovable screens or ones that only pivot across the bath rather than also outwards.

The one in my family bathroom is a four panel concertina arrangement, which again folds right out of the way despite the edge of the bath being quite close to the door, so that a single panel opening right away from the bath would have been annoyingly across the door. Perhaps you could get a screen that was like one or the other of those.

I'm with michaels in hating shower curtains, but I'm very happy with the screens I've got. The concertina one in the family bathroom was there when I moved in, but the ensuite bath didn't have a shower over, so naturally had no screen. I had the shower installed, and chose the screen. In some ways I'd have preferred a concertina one, but couldn't because the ceiling slopes, so I needed a screen with a curved top so it would fit under the ceiling.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Pastures, I've been thinking about your IT issues. I know that you need a new pc, but to help you in the short term would you consider a cheap tablet? They are getting so cheap now... I picked one up in the States last week for £35. I know it won't solve all of your problems but could make some things easier in the short term.

I have a shower over bath, I say shower but it is one of those attach to the bath taps affairs, I also have a shower curtain, no where to attach a screen!

My bathroom is tiny, I have a shorty bath up against the wall on the left, the back wall and the wall by the door and right beside that is the sink and then the right hand wall, no spare inches between all of them. The only available space to dry yourself is the little standing square by the bath where the sink isn't although the space is narrowed by having a radiator and a bathroom cabinet on the wall. To get out of the bathroom, you have to squeeze yourself up by the sink to open the door otherwise there isn't enough clearance.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    Can't picture it.

We have a toilet/sink under the stairs (as there was nowhere else to put one), and despite being a tight fit it's doable without any squeezing.

I'm really not well at the moment (haven't been feeling brilliant for the last few weeks), so apologies if I go quiet for the next few days :)

I'm actually (now OH has managed to swap leave with someone) looking forward to jury service (starts Monday), so hopefully I'll be feeling better by then.

Actually I would highly recommend that people visit the company's website:

    sites.google.com/site/woodflooringnorthlondon/

If you scroll down to the bottom, the third link from the left is 'Report Abuse'. If enough people report it as spam the website will be taken down, at least temporarily.

We've got an awesome storm on the way apparently.
