I am writing this on my tablet, but for anything serious work wise I run to the PC. The tablet is easy to carry around, and it is convenient, but it is not equivalent to a PC in terms of ergonomics. For example, there is no mouse, and the on-screen keyboard is very slow to use. Having said that, it is possible to get external keyboards for tablets.

Theoretically you shouldn't need a mouse on a touch screen.

BG engineers have an iPad with external keyboards. It looked quite swish.

BG boiler quotes include anything unforeseen that crops up during install. Knowing this house, that makes them a very attractive option.

Still deciding if 1 boiler is better than 2.

By the time you add a keyboard to an iPad, you lose a lot of the convenience, though. You end up with something that is laptop size, rather than tablet size. There's a convergence going on between high end tablets with keyboards and laptops, but neither comes close to a desktop for ergonomics.

Fitting a new boiler generally takes one man day. The boiler itself costs around £700. Other materials may come to £50. So, how come BG generally quote £2500+?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

A system that lets you keep hot showers if a boiler fails would be brilliant, from past chilly experience.

There's been an enormous outcry about that in the uk, with the government saying they will take the family home out of the equation, at least up to quite a generous limit. At the moment, I think the limit is only £16k.

£16k is a lot of money, and a generous enough allowance IMO for those that are in support of state benefits.

I own a house with plenty of equity, I have the companies, OH is working full-time, however if we needed it I'd prefer to sell the house, although that's partly because with a £2000/month mortgage we couldn't afford to keep it and that the equity would buy a decent 2/3 bed property locally.

Less thinking about the what could happens, as I'm more/less guaranteed a company for the next 3 years unless Sony goes bust :)

ETA: It's just the flu, probably caught from someone at work. It's been good to have the house to myself most of the week, as it means I can get on with things at my own speed uninterrupted :D

For the same reason that their (probably the most expensive in the country) standard gas tariff is the most 'popular' one. Because they can.

Having had the kudos of being the national supplier does stand your brand pretty high in the minds of lazy mortals.

I've got a keyboard case on my iPad, bought from John Lewis for about £75.

It keeps it small, whilst giving the convenience of a small laptop when a proper keyboard is necessary.

Maybe it's just me but I don't see much difference between bottom left and bottom right.

I'm not much good with plans, can't visualise very well, but in your 3 cases I would be tempted to add a little porch. Would get a lot of sun and give you a little space for storing shoes etc.
My preference would always be for separate rooms inside but it's you who has to live there.

I looked ....and struggled myself, to be honest :)

    Then I spotted it....

3] Existing kitchen door where it already is
4] Moving the kitchen door to the other side.

    Ah ha!

I'd be inclined to go with no. 3 unless no.4 is going to make a meaningful improvement to your life. All change will cost money.

PN, just get a new laptop or PC. I'm not sure there is much point in spending money on updating your old one.

This is a lower spec / smaller screen version of one of mine :

It's a laptop which can pretend to be a bad tablet (it's okay for watching video in bed I spose).

Even the i5 version will feel vastly quicker than your old machine; go for an SSD storage not mechanical hard drive.
