Grrrrr... insomnia again and I have to work later this morning.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.
  • Me too, think my sleep cycle is wrecked after 5 days of eating/drinking/merrymaking, but really need to catch up with a bit of work tomorrow so trying to be sensible tonight.

Still technically on hols until after NY though so shouldn't be a big day.

We're now down to our last couple of portions of Turkey breast, most of a trifle, quarter of a Xmas Pud... and only about half of the booze we started out with.

I am now craving a few days of healthy eating and no booze a bit less booze.

Unfortunately I have to be there, bright eyed and enthusiastic, to welcome in the hoardes and congratulate them for managing without a library service for four days. We did have a few suggesting that we open on Boxing Day as it wasn't a bank holiday.

Do you have to work a full day Hamish? Also wanted to ask Gen what the Aussie norms are in terms of time off, bank hols etc.

    Not this week.

On holiday all the way through so probably just a few hours a day keeping up with urgent issues and preparing some reports, slide decks, etc, for Jan meetings.

Plan on answering some emails in the morning, maybe return a few phone calls, bit of powerpoint, etc, until I get bored and watch a movie instead...

No hordes of book deprived pensioners for me!

Unless you're in a customer facing job or working in health then you are highly unlikely to work between Christmas Day and New Year.

We get 25th, 26th and 1st Jan off as public holidays. We get an extra day off if one of those falls on a Saturday or Sunday. There have been exceptions though for other public holidays, ANZAC Day once fell on a weekend and we didn't get an extra day. Everyone assumed that the NSW Government would vote it through but they never did so we had to work. Some other states got another day.

If you work in a shop or a library or prison or hospital or bar or other place open on a public holiday you get some pretty impressive penalty rates of pay as a rule. The rates get a bit mad: a checkout chick can be on $45-50 an hour on a Sunday for example.

Most offices close from lunchtime on 24th Dec until the first working day after 1st Jan. Ours does except for a few necessary people able to react to markets, mostly on the trading desk.

Well I am more than a little jealous of both of you.

I have been listening to Above and Beyond, which is very restful, but didn't send me to sleep, so I read another chapter of my book about ISIS, which was a mistake.

I am in the spare room as I camp out there when I know I'm going to have a bad night. At least that way it is only me disturbed.

Popping off to the office, before disappearing to this meeting.....

Going to need a lot of luck, I think, as the financing proposals are within limits, but only just.....

Good luck! Is Khalvashi Air about to take to the skies?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I hope so, just under a different name to the above!

I've only ever had one job that shut between Xmas and New Year. All jobs were the usual 25th/26th and 1st off and it'd be hard to book other days as annual leave (not to mention the fact that until recent years many jobs didn't give any annual leave, e.g. temps).

I used to yearn for those years when Xmas fell at a weekend so you got more than two days off and felt you'd actually had a break.

That was me in Investment Banking. In fact on Xmas we opened on 26th too because so many countries are in. It was even worse when Xmas was on the weekend because plenty of places (e.g. Spain) don't get a catchup day.

The Boy is making us pepperoni pizza for dinner tonight with nutella pizza for pudding. I remember why I had kids now! :)
