But everybody's in there, poking around, asking questions, querying, then giving their opinion of how things should be cooked. Soon you end up with 3-4 "experts" all with differing opinions.
THAT is where the problem with cooking Xmas dinner is. Other people interfering. It should be One cook, One dinner: you get it THEIR way, unless what you're asking isn't difficult to also achieve.
There used to be a discussion in our house over carrots: rounds or batons.... and it'd end up as batons as the one with the biggest voice said it was batons. Seriously? It's carrots .... it's not impossible/hard to cut half one way, half the other and cook them in the same pot!
One cook, one meal .... should be The Law.
Give your opinions/requests well ahead of time, to see if they can be accommodated..... but DON'T interfere on the day. Stay OUT of the kitchen.
I've seen the "gravy prepared ahead of time and brought on the day, just needs heating up" then require 3 different saucepans and three people hovering ... and an HOUR to reheat it, with every conceivable discussion round the hob about it, how thick/thin it was, if it's simmering or boiling, if it's reducing, if it needs cornflour (oh, not got that?) or just boiling more to reduce it, how does it taste? .... and change saucepans .... Really?? !!!!!! .... it's reheated gravy!!
Hello PN,

There's some truth in that PN......especially for those new to the thread but for us more seasoned posters, we have it down to a fine art:D
Most of us are frugal by nature anyway and wouldn't buy tat:D:cool:To do is to be. Rousseau

So the new TV has arrived and OH has been playing at the settings. So gleeful that he has managed to change the input names to "game" and "cable" rather than HDMI1 and HDMI2. He is so excited that the Virgin remote now turns off the TV.
Men and their toys!
...
I got a clever remote a couple of years ago which would also work with gestures, ala Harry Potter style. Wave to one side = fast forward etc.
What a waste of time! Knock it off the arm of the chair and it would turn everything off : tv / virgin box / bluray : the lot.
What marketing guru dreamt that one up. Probably an Apprentice reject.0 -

Everywhere else it s just bleurgh and doesn't feel like Christmas. It's more like a wet October, but the sun has hardly been out for the last two months and the days are at it shortest. Plus if you go for a nice walk in the country the ground is totally sodden.
We live in sodden. however we have boots and suitable coats so can dress for the weather. It is all too mild. We need a cold snap, to mark winter. I am away to Cyprus for 3 weeks in January. Booked 9 months ago to get me out of the coldest time of year.
Feel so sorry for those people who have been flooded out.0 -

I'm still waiting for a frost so I can deal with the poo out back.
The recommended poo-picker took some time to arrive and only came a few days before Christmas. I was thoroughly amused that H put the package under the christmas tree when it arrived. :rotfl:Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I came across some poetry that's at my intellectual level:
Would you like to sin
With Elinor Glyn
On a tiger skin?
Or would you prefer
To err with her
On some other fur?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Had a bit of a result today. I was pretty much running the car on fumes so decided to put a bit in. As Xmas has been a bit pricey this year I thought I'd just stick $25 in (£12). I turned the key and I had almost a full tank. Prices have come down to about a dollar a litre. Sweet!
The Girl had a friend over today which was nice for her. He was pretty well behaved so that was good. The Boy went out to a different friend's place. They spend so much time together in the holidays that it's good to split them up now and again.0
