The way I look at Christmas treats such as sweets, biscuits and snacks, is that most of these have long best before dates. So they don't need to be scoffed straight away. Quite often we are still eating them months later. Almost every year we are chucking away a box of Christmas biscuits in June because they've expired.
I quite like having treats in the house.
I also meant to say that when your Aldi opens Pastures, they do really nice individual trifles in pots. Pretty cheap too. About half the price of the Sainsbury ones. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Morning all. Still dry here indoors, the flood defences have held up again. Not so in York where DS is. About to go out in beautiful sunshine for a walk with the dogs but will avoid the river bank obviously.
We have lots of treats in the house too. I used to have to eat them all at once if they were in the house, but if they weren't I craved them even more and would go to the shops. My mindset has changed this year. I like knowing that there are snacks immediately available should I want them, but don't eat many at all.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
A grey and mizzy looking day today after the dry and sunny day yesterday.
Mum and dad have said we should all save up for a meal out next Christmas as it is too much for them and too much for me to do the dinner for us all...my sensible head says good idea, my budget/pride head says waste of money, I will be alright, pass me the painkillers.
Very low key day yesterday for the most part, dropped James down to work for 10am and then decided to stay at his work for the next hour enjoying the sunshine and the view of the sea and allowing the (quite strong) wind to blow away the cobwebs whilst having a bacon roll and a cup of tea (naughty Susan!).
Afterwards, it was back to the house to attempt to make vol au vent cases..they are so blooming easy to make and actually are less hassle than baking the pre prepared ones, ok I cheated by using packet puff pastry but still, no idea why I didn't do it before. The hardest part was finding things to use as cutters which matched the sizes required (one normal pastry cutter for the outside ring and the plastic top of a pepper grinder for the middle ring).
After a quick visit to the town centre, quick because begger all was open really, it was to my parent's house for the normal Boxing day get together. This is the day when all the siblings are under the same roof once more and pretty much all the cousins too (the only missing one was the difficult nephew from the Christmas day story - his choice).
We finally updated the cousins together picture last taken at James' 18th party, my goodness they have all grown up.
The vol au vents went down a storm as did the rest of the buffet and unlike last year, the quantities were just right, not much left over and sister in law was out of luck with her request for a doggy bag (she decided to leave after an hour to have drinks with her next door neighbour)
Today is a def rest day....I'm not moving for anyone or anything! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Did YOU buy any poor sucker a mug for Xmas??
No.
Last year we bought SIL a set of coffee cups to go with her new coffee machine. It's really a world of the sub-intelligentsia.
Think about: chocolate santas and kittens.

I've put the picture in. Not only does it have (even more) likes, the comment section also has people having a nice little agree and a pontificate about how they are one of the 3%.

SingleSue - we go out for Christmas dinner. I like it because I don't have to worry about prep while trying to open presents etc and there is no washing up, so again can relax. Means saving £5 per person per month for us although DD and her OH paid for themselves this year.
We will however be having a turkey dinner again tomorrow at home.Spend less now, work less later.0 -

Carrots should always be cooked the Basil Faulty way, cut into amphibious landing craft shapes, it only take a few hours to do (once perfected) hardly rocket science (more like marine military science).Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0
