I was struggling with the motivation (as usual) to do mine too, but a friend wanted to borrow some money, so I had to work out what my tax bill was, to see if I had enough free cash to lend her what she needed (I don't tend to keep much in cash anyway, but with the ftse being so low I invested nearly all my free cash). It was tight (especially when 3 service charge bills arrived), but I just managed it. I haven't submitted it yet, I like to reflect on it for a week or so, before submitting.

Not me, I live on top of a hill. I should prepare for bush fires. I can't imagine we'd actually burn down but I could well imagine us being evacuated at some point.

Yes 31st Jan, but I think it takes up to a couple of weeks for the IR to confirm what exactly your bill is, although you could do it at the last minute, and simply subtract what you paid in advance last year yourself, from their calculation sheet.

Normally I do it as soon as we get all the interest received letters as we have a few hundred quid refund. This year when we owe more than 20k it just seems less pressing....:o

I don't understand what it is, but I just have to wait.

Ouch, that's definitely too much to pay back via the tax code too, so I can see why you might procrastinate.

I have a main, full time job that's PAYE as well as little different bits and pieces incl dividends, so my actual non-taxed income is pretty small.

Just in case you didn't know, and you can't get the info in time, you are allowed to submit your return with an estimated figure as long as you declare it as such.

Thanks but it is a case of either X had a value and there is tax to pay on the gain or X had zero value and there is more tax to pay. So it is an either/or rather than an estimate.

Can't you still estimate worst case and then get the money back if other case is true?

Just had a late lunch turkey sandwich after a decent 17K run.

DW got me a running book for Xmas, so now I can go and read all about how I am going about my training completely the wrong way !

We prefer the boxing day eve fry up to Xmas meal here. What say you all?
