Cold caller: phoning to do an electoral poll.

CC: who will you vote for in the general election?

    me: party X

CC: who did you vote for last election?

    me: Party X

CC: and the election before that?

    me: Party X

CC: Would you consider yourself a swing voter? :rotfl:

:rotfl: I think my son's comment to that would be "Reading from a script, much?"

Thinking of you Doozergirl and I hope all goes as it should for you ((HUGS))

Reminds me of a conversation I had with the PA of the solicitor who had drawn up wills for LNE and me after DS was born. I rang up after he died (some 9 years after the wills were drawn up, and after having moved to a completely different town).

Me: I'm phoning about LNE's will. He's died. We've searched his house and can't find any subsequent will, so the one you've got is the valid one. I'm the executor so I need to arrange for you to send me the will, please.

Her: Let me go and get the file. <pause> OK, I have the file. But there's a note on it. This will's not valid because you're divorced.

Me: No. You have a note on the file because I informed you several months ago that he was filing for divorce, and that I had made a new will and wanted you to destroy my old one. But he didn't make a new will, and we had only got as far as the decree nisi. We didn't have a decree absolute, so on the day he died, we were not divorced.

Her: Oh, and are you now?

Me: ???????? [Thinks: Strangely enough, since he died, he hasn't got round to filing for a decree absolute.]

In a similar vein, his car insurance company wrote to him after he died:

    Dear Mr J (executors of)
We notice that the direct debit for your insurance on car <reg> has not been paid. Please arrange to pay this by <date> or you won't be covered....

They knew he was dead or they wouldn't have been writing to "Mr J (executors of)". They knew the car had been written off - their investigators were physically in possession of the wreckage. Just what need did they think a dead man would have for insurance on a written off car???

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

ISTR that writing to Mrs Deceased used to be a common problem. I ultimately work for an insurance company and I keep reading about ways that we are getting better and better at dealing with widow(er)s. AIUI there's now what amounts to a big red 'HE'S DEAD' button you press when an executor calls to stop mail going out etc.

I also get frustrated dealing with people in these sorts of circumstances, but I have some sympathy with the solicitor's PA in this particular case. First, she's a PA, not a solicitor. Second, she may have no practical knowledge of divorce proceedings, and it's a very unusual occurrence to die between decree nisi and absolute. Third, it's not obvious that divorce proceedings necessarily end on death. Something like a car purchase contract continues after death, with the executors taking over responsibility, for example.

So, I can't blame her for checking with you, and I can't blame you for finding it tiresome! :)
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Actually it wasn't tiresome. I found that the ridiculousness of it gave me a rare moment of amusement as light relief in the middle of everything that was coming at me from all directions. :)

Woke up to WWIII this morning cat fur flying, first time they have had a real fight in 4+ years. We separated them but one cat has decided it is all my fault and that she hates me, she loves her sister again though?
