Funnily enough I bought some rhubarb and ginger something (jam? pickle?) yesterday whilst trying to get the most out of the enters of the Amex shop small offer.
Whereas I trekked through appalling traffic to a dry cleaner who I don't normally use who first said a coat didn't qualify for 4 items for 10.99 then said that no I couldn't just take out the coat and do 3 items for 10.99 (the 3 items were 17.xx?) and finally said that despite the small shops app naming them as participating they didn't take Amex and never hadI think....0 -

I walked into Tescos yesterday and bought a pile of stuff that should have cost 39£ but was accidentally charged £40. After arguing - and getting a refund- I found in my pocket a £6 off a £40 spend voucher expiring really soon. I may well be my own worst MSE nemesis.550 miles on 40l is mega - anything over 10 miles per litre (45mpg) is pretty unbelievable in real world driving.
I recently got almost 40 miles per gallon on my new and rather tiny car and was really impressed. Never in my life have I owned a car with that efficiency. Mpgs are usually carried out on cars that are already warmed up and running in artificial conditions, and I always regard these mpgs as being aspirational if not downright fictitious. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I have spent the most amazing weekend away....and discovered the best way to deal with the underground is to take an Uber taxi.
Me and Josh set off yesterday morning by train for our concert at Wembley last night, all connections went without a hitch, the booked assistance was perfect and for a bit of a treat, Josh decided he would use the voucher he got at uni to get money off an Uber trip. So blooming well worth it with the wheelchair, no having to manhandle the chair up steps and escalators in our very antiquated underground system, no body seizing up for me before we had even started our trip.
We were delivered rested and still in good spirits in a speedy and luxurious manner (Josh had upgraded to an Uberlux such was the size of his discount voucher). Then at Marylebone station, we got a personal escort to the train and then he travelled with us to Wembley stadium station to get us off again, Michael was his name and he was an absolute diamond.
The good things continued, our hotel room was great, an extra treat of a bottle of bubbly on arrival and then the concert itself...
We joined the long queue to get in, got directed off to a door where there was no queue and then on our way to trying to find a toilet, got given a free upgrade to VIP, ok it was only access to the VIP lounge but we got given swanky bracelet things that made us look important and we didn't have to fight our way through the crowd to get refreshments and we could wait for the concert start in comfort and style away from the noise and hustle and bustle.
Then onto finding our seats, at the time Josh booked the tickets, I wasnt quite so reliant on the wheelchair. I had rung the arena last week to see if anything could be done about our now very unsuitable seats but alas the reply was in the negative, so in our usual manner, we were just going to make do with what we had..there was no blooming way I was going to miss this concert over a few (ok about 40) steps, even if I had to go up them on my bottom!
Anyway, on enquiring with one of the stewards on where we could safely store the chair during the concert, another arena employee came over, decided straight away she was not going to even let me to attempt getting to our purchased seats and off she disappeared with our tickets in her hand....10 minutes later and reaching panic mode, she finally reappeared, with new tickets in her hand. She had managed to find us much more suitable seats lower down (only needed to navigate 3 steps) and closer to the stage...result!
Concert was brilliant, best I have ever been to, could gush more but it would become boring.
This morning, a nice phone call from Michael to make sure of arrangements back to Marylebone and he once again personally escorted us from Wembley back to Marylebone and another bonus, all the other connections on our booked assistance ran like clockwork.
Took another Uber ride, this time using a discount Josh was able to send to me...and we have decided this is def the way forward for getting across London until they make the stations more disability friendly.
So a great weekend, my only problem was a lack of sleep...phone call from James in the early hours of this morning as a paramedic and ambulance had to be called for him due to his cardiac problem rearing its ugly head. Thankfully he is ok but it did mean that there was no sleep for me until everything was settled and he was back at the house. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

I've just been reading about the bushfires in VIC yesterday. A bunch of RFS firefighters got caught out by a change in wind direction. They took shelter in their fire truck when the wind changed direction, something that is an absolute last resort as it's often fatal. Their lives were saved by a new sprinkler system that is now used in the fire trucks.
It's amazing to think that all of those guys are volunteers. It's quite humbling.0
