Flowers? DS2-GF bought me flowers and now I need to reciprocate and don't know what to buy. criteria is that it has to be small/ light enough for DS2 to take on the train.
What about a small piece of silver jewellery? A simple pendant on a chain wouldn't be expensive, is small and suggests you like the person.

Asda price nationally so it would have only been 1.04 and based on the miles per tank that 5p a litre would be a 3 quid saving which would pay for you to go about 30 miles....I think....0

PN, do you have a glue gun from your crafting days?
DD made candy santa sleighs for friends. It makes sweets a bit more interesting. They could just be pulled out of a bag and one given to everyone or they can be table place settings.

One of the other "troubles" is that I've never been to the host's at Xmas before - maybe they already do ALL of this sort of stuff, and/or have their own treasured way of doing things. You really need to attend once, to find out what the score is.
In the past I've had "home made chocolates in a little fabric bag and tied with ribbon" that the host made with Lidl chocolates (melted) + some moulds. So I know they're into that sort of thing....
I don't think you need to be nifty fingered if you get a glue gun. I bought one in the local cheap/sells everything shop for a few quid and DD had them made in a matter of a few minutes. I was shocked at how easy it was as I thought it looked faffy.

After last night's dubious result on the strictly show what could be more appropriate than the election of a NP [/URL]to the exalted office of [STRIKE]global dictator [/STRIKE]MSEer of the year, Nothing dubious about that, no way, no how!
Many thanks to all who participated in my rise to power. At this point in my life, I'll try to use whatever privileges come with it the wisdom of youth coupled with the energy of old age. :beer:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Strictly wasn't dubious was it? Everyone I'd spoken to wanted Jay to win after his jive, weeks back. Including me.
H actually voted. For Kellie.
Congratulations on your world domination, zag!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

550 miles on 40l is mega - anything over 10 miles per litre (45mpg) is pretty unbelievable in real world driving.
WE are ignoring the climate and cooking by the season so tonight will be beef stew rather than the salad and cold cuts that more match the temperature. Beef stew chez michaels is very much a PN type dish, 900g of stewing beef at £5, two tins of 25p tomatoes, a 3p stock cube, 2 onions and 4 carrots - total cost per portion about 65p.I think....0 -
Yankee candle votives in a little pot? Might take you nearer to £4 budget if you buy a branded pot.
Otherwise poundland do candles in a small tin with a lid that smell quite nice. My aunt bought me some that had a brand name on that I've seen in there since but wouldn't have guessed were from there.
You could even buy two or three and tie them in a stack with ribbon.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Chuck in some rosemary, thyme and bay leaves from the garden and its still free. Dijon mustard or a bit of ordinary might take your cost up a few pence, but would add interest to it.

I'm ages behind, and have stuff I'd like to comment on but may well not have time. (rolls eyes) BUT.....
PN, or anyone doing family history stuff, there's a code to get a household in the 1939 register unlocked for half price, which comes in at £3.48
I don't know if you can use it multiple times yet. Currently have 3 more people I'd like to take a look at, but there's a few I just can't find and I'm sure they were still alive and in England/Wales (don't think Scotland included). Will just have to go back and search again in a few months I suppose.
Anyway here's the section of their newsletter concerning it:
"Plus, don't miss this incredible chance to save 50% on the 1939 Register.
It normally costs £6.95 to unlock a household in the Register, but for a limited time it will cost just £3.48 with the discount code X2UL38W4. Make haste, offer ends Wednesday 23rd December!"
You get a transcription of the person you looked for, and their household members. Some records are still closed - read about that on site.
But the interesting thing is you get a photo of the whole page, so you get to see at least some of the neighbours. Depending on where on the page your relative is.
Bad transcription of my rellies. They were given as being in hospital (not unlikely given FH of TB). But when I looked at the photo of the entry I know the place just below, and I could see that there was an arrow pointing upwards from the hospital word entry (idiot person doing the thing took two lines for *** district hospital as address for one person) and then an arrow from my Grandma's entry in their bungalow to my Grandad's entry (his address given merely as "hospital" or that's the line that matches to his name.
I've notified them, but whether anything will get done about it remains to be seen as I'm not a paid up member at the moment. (But I have international Ancestry if anyone wants a look up)
Sorry didn't send this on sooner - too much happening here, and we're still trying to pack as well as sort out assorted friends and relatives not to mention helping DD2 with house move last Thursday!0
