Strictly wasn't dubious was it? Everyone I'd spoken to wanted Jay to win after his jive, weeks back. Including me.

    H actually voted. For Kellie.

Congratulations on your world domination, zag!

I voted for Kellie too, but it was hard to choose, they were all so good this time I thought.

    I can't bear The Apprentice.

Gen Hope you've got over the Carol Concert/funfair now! The onion marmalade sounds nom. What's it good with in your opinion?

PN The rain keeps doing that here today too :(

Maggie Hello! Things sound manic there. Why are you packing? Are you moving as well?

Quick update, unlocked another household on the FAmily History stuff, so looks as if you can use the code more than once. Plus the payment is valid for 3 months if you don't use it immediately. Have to say I hate that sort of arrangement - I'd always forget to use it by the given date, plus 3 months is a bit short too - should be at least 6 months if not a year! Moan minge groan complain!

No bloke in his 70s will want a yankee candle in a pot :)

I could take a drive to poundland in the week ... it's just a 15 mile round trip and finding a car park/parking .... and then trying to find it. Been there once before, it's hidden though, in an "old arcade" off a street ... but I could google it before I go and pray I remember it right.

    Personally, I HATE candles :)

With respect, you're not going to fulfill anyone's dreams with a budget of £2-3.

For me, the aim would be to provide something that isn't a box of chocolates or wine, so it looks like I put at least some thought in and might please one person. If it looks like I spent more, bonus.

Fancy wrapping. I use brown paper, an endless roll of curling ribbon and then dismantle big jingle bell rings from the decoration bit of poundland and tie three bells into the bow of the ribbons. I'd forgo the paper if the gift wasn't a 'surprise'.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Flowers? DS2-GF bought me flowers and now I need to reciprocate and don't know what to buy. criteria is that it has to be small/ light enough for DS2 to take on the train.

Or get some delivered? We buy MiL daffodils from Cornwall for the last 10 years or so. This year we're sending a mix of daffs and scented narcissi.

Maggie, rumour is that the 1939 register will be included foc in Library version of FMP from next year, probably spring-summer though yet to be confirmed.

You didn't hear that from me and I may delete.

Have had a lovely day today.

Went into London to the Royal Albert Hall for a Christmas matinee.

On the tube there were a bunch of burly blokes and a couple with the cutest baby. By the time we got off several stops later, the blokes were all waving and making faces at the baby. It was hilarious and really heartwarming.

The concert was lovely. They didn't have hot lunches today that the RAH, so had a ploughmans sandwich which was made with absolutely lovely rhubarb and ginger pickle (nom!), something I wouldn't even have considered before but now I'll have to look out for.

After that we went to the Science Museum. First we saw a family exhibition about the science of Christmas. It involved fun stuff like making a huge cracker that when pulled had a really big bang, as well as making it snow indoors (oh, and putting reindeers on rockets).

The piece de resistance though was the fabulous Cosmonauts exhibition which is on until I think March. So interesting to find out more about the Soviet Space programme. Koralev, the brains behind it, had been in the gulags beforehand and there was some really interesting background into the people who were in the programme as well as some amazing exhibits such as landing capsules. If anyone else is a space junkie like me I highly recommend a trip.

Funnily enough I bought some rhubarb and ginger something (jam? pickle?) yesterday whilst trying to get the most out of the enters of the Amex shop small offer. Was from Paxton and Whitfield (cheese shop, think they have a handful of branches) so probably ridiculously overpriced but never mind. It sounded interesting!

Today we went to the Frankfurt Christmas market in Brum. Did all the clich!d things spirit mentioned a page or so so: gluhwein, bratwurst, bier and frikadellen. Oh and some sugar coated pecans. A good time was had by all :)

edit: Tomorrow is Star Wars :) Found out today that neither of my parents have ever seen a Star Wars film before.

And it was jam I bought yesterday
