Last Christmas i was only able to sit and watch as DD and Oh decorated the house, shopped and prepared food. this year I can do almost everything and it is lovely. But i am quite slow.
Having a dummy run of this dish http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/chestnut-shallot-tatins-mushroom-madeira-sauce
It has taken forever to trim and peel the shallots, I have also eaten quite a lot of chestnuts.
I can use a knife and fork to eat but find it hard to place my finger on the back of the fork and keep the tines in meat as I cut it. My arm tires my hand gives up and I end up with someone cutting up my food.
It helps if I use a steak knife as it cuts quickly so improves the efficiency of my fork use. i have one solitary scruffy knife and would like us all to have the same cutlery for christmas meals, so I think I am going to buy these http://www.johnlewis.com/store/laguiole-cream-steak-knives-and-forks-set-12-piece/p230157822?navAction=jump
Trouble is do I then progress to wanting to create a canteen? Or do I need 2 sets? We have a servicable but ugly canteen that was given to us, too good to throw out and caters for 12 if you repurpose the smaller knives and forks .
Do NP have full canteens covering all cutlery and serving needs and how many people do you have knives and forks for?0 -
I have a 'best' canteen for eight.
It does starter knife and fork, main knife and fork, pudding, soup and teaspoons. it has two serving spoons.
I should get some more serving spoons really. We don't have steak knives or fish forks.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

His fiancee is there. I wouldn't be looking at it in daylight!
Tattoo Fixers is OH's "guilty pleasure". I think he missed last night's edition though.
Perhaps I should add that in my previous post I was referring to our grass......0 -
I have cutlery overload.
I suspect GDB and I can beat your overload, needing sets for meat dishes and diary, plus another set of each for passover. That is just "everyday", We also have ''best cutlery".I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. We have a normal set of cutlery, and a bronze set which seemed a good idea at the time. I'd forgotten all about them until this thread.
...trouble is they need polishing after use. I suspect they are one of many mistaken purchases. (DW is not really allowed in the loft - she would find many other mistakes!)0 -

I do not think that we have a set of cutlery, in that nothing matches. I have no idea what happens to it, but it just disappears. So, we keep adding bits of cutlery to replace the lost stuff, and of course it is impossible to match the originals. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Do you have a best passover set as well as a regular passover set?
I am a demi-orphan.
No. That would be overkill!
Our everyday sets are 6 each but with shorter and longer knives and forks - so can be used for 12 without causing great offence.
Our best sets are the same pieces, but one is silver plate that we had as a wedding present that OH insists on re-wrapping each piece in its purpose sized little bag - consequently we rarely use it. The other is from a range called Viners colour, obsolete now and I'm not sure it is completely dishwasher proof.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I've lived my whole life without enough serving spoons. Every time we have guests I wonder why I don't have more, yet I have now been thrown into Christmas serving spoon induced anxiety.
What if they don't match the other cutlery?
