Yorkie I am very sorry to read of the loss of your dad, I hope it is some comfort that he did not linger nor carry on with a legacy of catastrophic disability.

My experience is that time is a great healer, and that although the immediate sense is one of shock, you are busy making arrangements. It may be it is in the next few months when you have time to think and may worry about your mum that you feel the loss and are weary, so if work is compassionate that is great but give yourself time.

Thanks Spirit. We are taking a great deal of comfort as you mention. There are many things to be thankful for; for starters, he planned to do his first solo journey by train to go shopping that day. He could have been taken ill while out.

I do need to remember that everyone's stages and timescales of mourning are different.

My leaving do was also the Xmas works party on one occasion.

I sat at the opposite end of a long table to the boss who I didn't particularly care for.

Luckily, I had a motorised water pistol under the table. It was remarkably accurate at firing water jets into his crotch.

He was too drunk to work out where this moisture was coming from. :rotfl:

Oh I'd love to have seen that!

Very sorry to hear your news Yorkie. Glad your work are being helpful though. Please let us know when the funeral is, so that I can send thoughts and The Vibes. Cyber hugs from Liverpool.

Mmm, cavalo nero... got some growing at the lottie, it's doing really well still, we're having it every day at present! Planted some in big pots on the caravan deck too, so if we go there for Xmas we'll hopefully have some for our dinner. Of course the pigeons may have had them by now!

The funeral will be Monday 21 Dec. We could have had a slot on Wednesday 16 but the church funeral service would have been at 9am - far too early given the number of people attending, the distance many will travel, and the overlap with rush hour and the start of a local primary school's day.

At least we sorted the details of the service and registered his death today.

The replacement car also got delivered yesterday. Mum is going to have to learn that you can't do 30mph in 5th gear with this smaller engine!

Sadly, this was before t'internet - probably just a piece of wet string running across Tim Berners-Lee's office...

I did tell one lady not to try and move her desktop PC from one side of the desk to the other.

The reason? Well, as she admitted, it was full of data, and boy does that stuff weigh a ton ! :rotfl:

The guys on help desk enjoyed it when she logged the call.

So I'm thinking you probably couldn't staple two 2.5 inch floppies together so these must have been the 5.25" ones - and I seem to remeber they were round disks in a square sleeve - hence you probably could staple two together by the corners and having removed the staples still use the disks.....unless of course you
had also ran a magnet over them ;)

8". Most were reusable apart from the ones where they had stapled through the circular bit. I genuinely think that was more of an "accident" and they intended that their leaving did not go unnoticed rather than being outright malicious. They were angry not malicious.

We used to have a goat of the week award, where we would vote for the best faux pas.

For some it was a badge of honour to win the award, but others really resented it.

I remember one of the users complaining she could not give a customer a quote to lease a car with a sunroof as an extra on the quote.

She was quite irate that the system was so rubbish because it wouldn't allow the sunroof option.

The car she was quoting for? .... A Ford Cabriolet !!

There's nothing like computer systems for making us realise we are fallible. I find it comforting in a way. :)

I remember years ago a mate sent me a thing of funny calls to help desks. One stuck in my memory which was a voicemail:

"Er yeah, hi. Could someone call me back quite urgently please? My mouse is at the edge of my mousemat but the pointer is only in the middle of the screen"

I'm on the train this morning. It's not nearly as nice as the ferry. .

Yorkie Sorry you have to wait so long for the funeral :( It does sound a better option than 9 a.m. though.

Pastures New Happy even more belated birthday!

    Happy belated birthday Pastures!

My favourite story was one my former boss used to tell from when he worked in construction.

Apparently an irate woman phoned up after a driver had turned up with a truck and asked "where would you like your asphalt?"

    Happy belated birthday PN xx
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
