It's automatically triggered when I own something or know about it ....

I know nothing about worktops. "You get what you're given" .... what I've got here looks quite nice, but I've no idea if it's durable/long-lasting because [a] I don't abuse things I don't really use it except to rest a microwave dish while stirring the contents.

It's a wood looking thing, that's probably an image printed onto compressed chipboard or something :)

    It looks nice though.

I think there was a name printed on the underside.... I'll go see what that is, so I can link to a photo of the stuff I've "got because it was here".

    Edit:
It says Axiom. Of course I then went to try to find it and didn't have much success at finding a site that enabled me to spot it as I only know what it looks like, not what it is - and sites group things by what they are called.

This looks like it might be mine. I've got "butchers block"
    *removed link*

That image doesn't have much variation; there are definitely "blocks" of different coloured finish on mine....not all one colour.

Edit 2: I think this is the actual beastie

As you can see, it appears to be £30/metre for worktop .... I've no idea if that's cheap/expensive....but as it's in my house I'm guessing it's the former :)
Sounds bl00dy expensive to me though.

I think that granite is very roughly twenty times that price. We have laminated chipboard, by the way. Same as you.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I think they're the guys that advertise in my local shopping centre :)

The result is very good and the fitting is tidy and a lot less hassle than living with no worktops while they cut granite to size and then fit.

People who claim knowledge about this sort of thing, couldn't tell the difference from solid granite pieces other than our worktop is thicker.

WE have wood, no doubt it will suffer as we don't oil it nearly often enough - I suspect if you do oil it and never put things on it then it would last ok.

I get wood too. I find that rubbing it quite vigorously does the job.

You have the 40mm thickness though not the cheap and nasty 25/30 so not too bad. Personally I prefer the 625/650 depth tops as they fully cover washing machines/dishwashers, with the 600mm they tends to stick out a bit at the front.
    I think....

Integrated fronts would solve that problem.

But sharply reduces the choice of appliances and I prefer kitchens without everything integrated.

Mine would probably beat yours....it was probably fashionable in the 70s!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
