H phoned to say that a gardener is arriving NOW. I hate people I don't know at my house, so no notice is not good for me. Then I realise that the back garden is full of dog poo.

We didn't mow the lawn, so it got long, then you can't find the poo, so you can't (or don't to) mow the lawn as it involves finding the poo. Then the grass gets longer and it's just a nightmare.

I was in the bath so not exactly the best moment for spending a hour hovering over the grass looking for poop, especially an hour I don't have.

I asked him to put her off, he refused as I am being a mentalist, so I am now hiding from her. Still in the bath.

Oh, we did get our first Christmas card of the year on Monday! I keep telling myself I must start writing mine (though send fewer every year) but haven't got around to it.

I have always sent christmas cards with a nativity related scene and bought from a charity. Most charities had not changed the desugn for a few years and this year we did not want to send the same cards again. Instead, we are having cards printed .The picture was taken last year and is our dog in his bed cuddled up to his santa toy. An anitidote to the family/ children photograph cards that are sent. I blame Tony Blair.

We will make a donation to the charity that rehomed Ben to us.

What is the gardener going to do? presemably it wont be grass cutting. so you just have to forewarn her that the lawn is mined. Get Doozer to text her.

We only have grass, three pots and a raised bed.

It's the grass that is the only problem. I think he's spoken to her now.

I am having fake grass next time - mind you, they can get around the side without having to deal with me in the next house.

    Physio.

Now much of me is fixed, parts of me are being fine tuned, Currently my neck. It in volves the therapist supporting my head and stretching my neck. It helps to stop me holding my head forward and improves posture etc. Physio tells me that my head weighs about 5 kilos. That is a lot to carry too far forward.

Noted that GF is joining you. It is a family milestone when you offspring's relationships become signiificant to be includedin private family occassions.

That was the thought that struck me when I was exchanging emails with my brother about visiting them at Christmas and he mentioned that my nephew's GF will be with them. Looking forward to meeting her - nephew is IMO a delightful person, so am hoping he has chosen a similarly delightful GF.

Agree. My recommendation is a Chiropractor of the McTimoney type.

AIUI (and I may be wrong) and IME (YMMV)
    • Physios are available on the NHS. Osteopaths and chiropractors you have to pay for (but won't have to wait ages for).
    • Physios are awesome if your problem is muscular. If something skeletal is slightly "out" somehow, chiropractors and osteopaths are more effective.
    • McTimoney chiropractors do much gentler and less scary (but nonetheless effective) things to you than osteopaths. I have no experience of other flavours of chiropractic but gather some are quite dramatic.
    • Physios are definitely science-based and evidence-based. Some chiropractors believe in dodgier and less scientifically respectable ideas, and some practise a range of alternative therapies of which chiropractic is just one. I only let mine do stuff to me that makes sense to my science brain - eg my neck is stiff and painful, she manipulates my neck, my neck is less stiff and stops hurting, I am happy.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Every time someone mentions Xmas in November an elf drowns a baby reindeer.

The appointment is 9:30pm tomorrow your time. I hate this. On a more positive note I'm picking up the keys tomorrow to New House. It's huge, Aussie houses are ridiculous.

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: re baby reindeer!

Best wishes for tomorrow, on both counts.

michaels I too would suggest a physio, initally at any rate. In our area you can refer yourself to the local service. In my case I had some muscles going into spasm. The physio did acupuncture, which to my astonishment took all the pain away for about 24 hours to give the nerves a rest! Then he suggested an exercise to do every day to help prevent it happening again.

Spirit What a nice idea re the pic of your dog :)

Doozergirl I hope H has put the gardener off for the time being. At least a female one is a bit better than having a strange man in your garden though :)

    Maggie Are you ok?

Michaels, this is the pilates exercise for neck. Straighten your spine so that your chin retracts so that you look like you have many chins. The top of your head should be level. You have seven vertebrae in your spine, gently roll down from the top, one vertebrae at a time and don't push, this done properly eases my neck up gently.

Do this sitting down and not while driving as it can make you lightheaded if you have a lot of tension.
