Do you wear waders to reach them or just get your feet wet. Sounds very 'pimp my crib' to have an indoor river on which to float things.
:rotfl:
The story will be familiar to many.
You wander along to some fancy kitchen shop with their fancy prices and come away with a bunch of design ideas in your head.
But...how many times have you ever seen someone actually using these display kitchens?
(I did try but they escorted me from the building)
I think they are selling you a vision rather than reality. For example, so many kitchens in brochures show islands, but you need a pretty wide kitchen to accommodate an island.
I agree with bugslet; it's an indulgence - and should be enjoyed as such.0 -
He wants to do Games design, the uni on Saturday is offering Games art design which is also within his own personal parameters now he is back doing and enjoying his art work again.
He is currently studying ICT at college and getting all distinctions and distinction*, something which he (and I) is immensely proud of after the mess at the end of his time at high school. He has also gone back to his creative writing and researching history, this time combining it with his art and his love of computer games as an idea for an extension/add on to a main stream and very popular game.
He would have loved to have also been doing history and/or government and politics A level at the same time as his ICT but his current course is very full on and they advised against it (the ICT course is equivalent to 3 A levels)....good thing really because it really is very full on, for once it wasn't being overstated and he would have struggled to keep up with everything.
The only advice I would offer Sue is for your son to approach the subject as a life long learning exercise, and be prepared for change.
Take computer games.
Back in the 80s I knew four guys who used to go to an office in the evening, and just hack out a game. One would drive allowing the others to drink, and the ghetto blaster was always on. They wrote some pretty successful games.
Today, the archetypal computer games company looks more like a film company! Sure, there are the geeks doing the grunt work, but they just build the tools for the set designers and storyboarders. It's a much more regulated and structured environment.
It's good to try different things, trends change often in computing.0 -
The blurb from a film on locally:-
An old Jewish baker’s failing business gets an unexpected boost when his young Muslim apprentice, also a cannabis dealer, drops a load of dope in the dough. Suddenly the customers can’t get enough of his bread.
Could be fun!No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

All it needs now is for Keanu to play the lead, and Miss Bullock his imaginative sidekick.
There is a film on Netflix which I can recommend to NPers.
It's called Kajaki, about a bunch of guys who run into trouble in Afghanistan when they wander into a minefield.
It's not exactly light hearted, be warned..0 -
Seems there are quite a few NP posting good news of one kind or another ATM. Congratulations to all concerned. :T
My good news is that DS started with his new English tutor yesterday. We couldn't find a specific dyslexia tutor who suited him and was convenient logistically, so am trying an English teacher who says she can help him with key skills as well - I want her to help him with exam technique and legibility and so on, as well as helping him make sure of a decent grade in English GCSE.
They seemed to hit it off OK (although he is doing it almost entirely for the bribe I have offered him for sticking with the process with the tutor) and from what I overheard, she seemed competent, confident and encouraging, which is just what he needs. I am hoping for good things.
Edit: Why have I suddenly got a round red 1K badge today? Not that I'm upset about it or anything, but why 1K today? Several of us seem to have got 1K or 10K all of a sudden, but not everybody - anybody know any rationale for who has and who hasn't?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
So washing machine installed. A+++++++++++ rating only possible because the programme that is used to calculate the rating is 3 hours long!
Anyway, in normal use it is quiet and has a large door, both pluses.
Need to work out how to drill a neat round hole in the (cheap) worktop to let the plug go to the wall point rather than out and back over the depth of the worktop. Apparently the plug has to remain hardwired or it will invalidate the warranty.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Plug washing machine into extension cord? Take plug off extension cord and feed wire through drilled hole then reattach?0 -

Difficult industry he has chosen but a lot of fun when working on the right project. I am hoping he is learning a few programming languages even if it's basic stuff. I imagine he has messed around with photoshop, created some basic animation of some description. But most of all I hope he is involved modding existing games making new maps, scripts and using game editors ideally working with others in a larger community project. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0 -
Yep to all the above Tom.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
